I blink. Not because she has an arrangement with the queen — that much I had assumed. Otherwise, she would have no way of expecting me to marry the prince.

But the idea that I would wed the man my sister was forced to marry is unthinkable, even if it is a common enough custom here.

Once again, I’m compelled to wonder if I’m reading too much into all of this, seeing things that aren’t there when Mother is merely scheming the same way she always has.

“Of course.” I keep my voice bland, though my mind is racing.

Maybe she isn’t hiding anything, but that doesn’t mean the king doesn’t have information I need.
