"That's an excellent idea. I hope you learned your lesson."

"You don't have to worry. I'm not planning on an encore."

Two hours later they were waiting for their flight in the British Airways First Class lounge, drinking tea and sharing a snack, when Duncan unexpectedly jumped to his feet.

"I'll be back in a few minutes."

"Where are you going? Is everything okay?"

"Fine. I won't be long. Maybe you should call your parents while I'm gone. You've put it off long enough."

"You're right. I will."

As he marched away, Brittany leaned back in her chair and stared out at the runway, still trying to wrap her brain around the sudden and unexpected turn in her life.

"I'm living a fairytale," she muttered. "Shoot. I really do need to call mom and dad. God only knows what they'll say."

Reaching for her cell phone, she asked the attendant to watch their carry-on baggage, and walked across the lounge to a private phone booth. Placing the call, her pulse ticked up, and when her father answered she felt her stomach churn. She didn't need his approval, but she wanted it.

"Hi Dad."

"Sweetheart, how are you? On your way home?"

"Not exactly."

"What do you mean? Are you staying in Tahiti for a few days?"

"Not exactly," she repeated.

"So—where are you going—exactly?"

"The thing is, I met this amazing man, and before you say anything he's not just some joker. He's an English barrister, a real gentleman, and I'm very happy. He's not like anyone I've ever met."

"Being from Britain I would imagine that's true," her father said slowly. "You say he's a barrister?"

"Yes. He asked me to stay with him in London for a week. He's flying me there, first class. Like I said, he's not some joker, and—"

"Where in London does he live?" her father asked, cutting her off.

"I'm not sure, but I'm really happy. You'd really like him, he's very educated, and he's--"

"I suppose if that's what you want," he said, interrupting again, "but give me his full name. I want to check him out, and let me know his address as soon as you arrive."

"His full name is Duncan Rhys-Davies, that's R-h-y-s, then a hyphen, then Davies."

"You say he's a lawyer?"

"No, dad, he's a barrister. There's a difference. I don't know what that is yet, but he's a barrister and—"

"You're an adult now, you can do what you want, but make sure he treats you right."

"I want to tell you about him," she said, feeling slightly annoyed. "He has—"

"I'm sure he's a very interesting guy, but if you run into any trouble call me right away. I know some people there. I'll let them know you'll be staying a few days, and they'll be there in a hurry if you need them."

"Thanks, Dad, but I'm sure I'll be fine."
