“Goodnight, Marco,” she murmured, gratefully sinking into his body.

Praying she’d wake up and find all was forgiven, she closed her eyes, but with her fate unknown she was only able to sleep in short bouts. When Marco woke up the following morning, she slid her hand down his torso and attempted to wrap her fingers around his cock, but he grabbed her wrist and moved it away.

“I thought you had a sore shoulder.”

“It’s not bad. Just sort of achy.”

“That’s good to hear,” he remarked, letting out a yawn and stretching his arms above his head. “I’m taking a shower.”

Her heart sinking, she watched him climb from the bed and pad into the bathroom. Fighting the temptation to run after him, she decided to check her ankle. Carefully unwrapping the bandage, she was relieved to find the swelling wasn’t as bad as she thought it would be. Hearing the shower stop, she limped across the room, reaching the bathroom door as he walked out.

“It’s all yours,” he said, then glanced down at her naked ankle. “That doesn’t look too terrible. Let me see your shoulder.”

Turning around, she slipped the robe to her waist.

“You have quite a bruise, but I’ve seen worse,” he remarked. “I’m going downstairs. Meet me in the kitchen when you’re ready, and bring the bandage. I’ll get in touch with Brent to wrap it again.”

“Thank you, and uh, Marco,” she said softly. “I know you don’t want to talk about it yet, but—uh—I know I shouldn’t have done what I did. I’m really, truly sorry.”

He paused. “We’ll discuss that—and some other things—over breakfast.”

Trotting down the stairs, Marco called Joe and asked him to cook up some French toast, then moved swiftly to his bedroom. Changing his clothes, he poked his head into the security room on his way to the kitchen.

“Morning, Benny, anything I should know?”

Benny swiveled in his chair.

“Jack McNaught dropped off that wine,” Benny replied, pointing to a bottle on his desk. “I opened the card. It’s an apology for not knowing his partner was bent.”

“Interesting. Maybe he’s not as stupid as Liam claimed he was, and Benny, you were great last night.”

“Just doing my job, boss.”

“Yeah, well, you do it better than anyone else ever could. You and Joe will get a bonus at the end of the month.”

“Cool, thanks.”

“I want to go back to the lodge this afternoon,” Marco said, glancing at his watch. “Plan on leaving around two o’clock.”

“Gotcha, I’ll be ready.”

Marching down the hall and entering the kitchen, Marco found Joe carrying a plate of the delectable fried bread to the table. The delicious smell stirred Marco’s appetite.

“Should I stick around?” Joe asked as Marco sat down and poured himself a mug of coffee.

“No, and I just told Benny we’re going back to the lodge. I want to stay about a week. Get together whatever we might need.”

“Will do.”

Sipping his java, Marco stared out at the grounds. Allowing the Zeppelin brothers into the compound could have been a fatal error. It was a mistake he wouldn’t make again.

“Something smells delicious,” Steph declared, walking in and breaking into his thoughts.

“Perfect timing. It’s just come out of the pan. Sit down and help yourself.”

“Thanks, but, uh, can we talk before we eat?” she asked meekly, settling across from him.
