She studied his face as he nodded. He seemed satisfied. “I’ll be back shortly.”

She watched him rise to his feet and march to the door, but as he opened it, he stopped and turned around.

“Take off your clothes. When I get back you’ll be punished. You can think about that while I’m gone.”

Locking the door behind him and striding through the large house, Marco stopped at a closet, retrieved Steph’s bag, and found the keys inside the zippered compartment. Placing it back on the shelf, he continued down a wide hall to the double doors at the end. Pushing them open, he entered Benny’s sophisticated security room.

“Hey, Benny, what have you got for me?” he asked, walking over to join him in front of a large monitor. “Did you get into the flash drive?”

“Yep, and considering the Zeppelins are based halfway around the world, Max Steadman compiled quite the dossier. Besides that, it’s not good news. There are also profiles on you, me and Joe, Liam Miller and Jack McNaught.”

“What?”

“Yep, and this detective is thorough. He also has photographs of you and me with Liam and Jack as well as the brothers.”

“Fuck,” Marco muttered. “Why didn’t we see him?”

“I guess he’s good at his job.”

“He said he’s invisible,” Marco grunted. “He was right.”

“This isn’t good, boss. Do you know if there are copies?”

“He swears there’s only one other and it’s with his lawyer. We need to find out who that lawyer is.”

Marco took a breath.

“Maybe there’s another way to handle this,” he said thoughtfully. “Where’s Joe? There’s an errand you two need to run.”

“He’s in the kitchen.”

“These are the keys to unit 224 in Steph’s building,” Marco continued, dropping them on Benny’s desk. “It’s the apartment next to hers. Underneath the sofa is an external hard drive. You won’t have any issues. The occupant is away.”

“That’s why we didn’t find much on her laptop,” Benny muttered. “That girl is smart.”

“Sometimes she is, and sometimes, not so much,” Marco remarked. “By the way, those cameras in the hall belong to Steadman.”

“No shit.”

“He also has one in front of the building. Take them down and toss them. That man needs to know who’s in charge.”

“Will do.”

“There’s a lot to discuss. When you and Joe get back, tell Joe to start dinner. We’ll have a meeting while we eat. I’ll be tied up for a while. Don’t bother me unless it’s urgent.”

“Okay, boss. Where will you be?”

“Having a serious conversation with our guest. She’s caused me a lot of problems, and I’m going to make sure she doesn’t do any more damage.”

Chapter 21

Naked and waiting anxiously for Marco’s return, Steph thought back over the last few weeks and a dawning realization began to take hold. She’d been so obsessed with following Marco she’d thrown common sense out the window. Pursuing him up the winding mountain road and walking through the forest to the lodge had been insane.

The door opened.

Jerking her head up, she watched the handsome, infamous man move toward her. He’d changed his clothes. Dressed in khaki slacks and a forest green sweater that amplified his muscled arms, he looked sexier than ever.
