“Keep me posted, Benny,” Marco said, guiding Steph to the door.

“Sure will.”

“So, tell me. What did the brothers want?” Steph asked as they entered the hall.

“Nothing important.”

“Nothing important?” she retorted. “They didn’t show up at your gate over nothing important.”

“Steph, stop asking so many questions,” he said sternly. “My business is none of yours. I’m taking you back to my bedroom. I’ll rustle something up and bring it to you.”

“Okay,” she mumbled, though he could see she wanted to say more. “Will you get me something to drink as well?”

“Like what?”

“I don’t really care. Wine, vodka, brandy, anything.”

“Sure,” he said, his voice softening as they entered the dimly lit master suite. “Take those sloppy clothes off and get into bed. I’ll be back shortly and I want you naked.”

“Again?” she quipped, looking up at him with a sassy grin.

“Always,” he shot back, winking at her.

“Marco…” she said softly, staring at the floor, “please tell me why the Zeppelins came here? I’ll be worried all night. You don’t have to give me any details.”

As she slowly raised her eyes and stared into his, he suddenly had an overwhelming sensation he’d known her far longer than the few days they’d spent together.

“Please, Marco?” she whispered. “Pretty please?”

He couldn’t respond.

In the fire’s dancing light, her eyes sparkled up at him like sapphires, and her full, moist lips begged to be kissed. He wanted to place his hands on either side of her face, tell her how gorgeous she was, then wrap her in his arms and devour her mouth.

“Make it up,” she quietly continued, her baby blues appearing even more engaging. “Just tell me something, anything.”

“There’s been a change of plans,” he said, finding himself unable to deny her. “They needed to update me in person.”

“Why in person?”

Tilting his head to the side, he let out a sigh. “Security concerns. I still don’t know what the changes are.”

“Still, it seems a bit extreme to just show up unannounced.”

“Steph, you don’t know how my business works. It isn’t exactly run of the mill type stuff.”

“I might know more than you think,” she whispered, a flush crossing her face.

A strange sensation rippled through his body. “Which means what?”

“Just what I said.”

“This isn’t a time to play games,” he warned, grabbing her around the waist and jerking her against him. “Explain yourself. What did you mean?”

She took a breath.

He could feel the anxiety oozing out of her.

“Tell me!”
