“Clamps?” she panted.

“Does that make you nervous?”

“Very.”

Though she couldn’t see him, she could imagine the evil grin curling his lips.

“But curious too, right?”

“Yes, Sir.”

“I don’t have any here, but I do have something else,” he murmured, whispering in her ear. “Remember, be very still.”

“What—?”

An icy chill touched one of her cherry tips, evoking a shocked gasp.

“Nice and puckered,” he murmured, drawing the frozen nipple into his mouth as he moved the ice to its twin. “Delicious, but I think it’s time for a toast.”

Managing to gather her wits, she listened to him pop the champagne and pour the effervescent drink.

“To us,” he declared, taking her hand and guiding it around the glass. “You really are something special, though I’m still not sure how I feel about you keeping yourself a secret for so long.”

Too excited to worry about his comment, she carefully lifted the glass to her lips and drank the fizzy wine.

“Now it’s time to tell you the rules of the game.”

“Game?”

“I’m going to ask you a few questions. If I believe you’re telling the truth, you can pick what you want to eat, otherwise I’ll choose.”

“Okay,” she said happily, wondering what difference it would make. She loved everything on the tray.

“Why did you hide in the closet when you first arrived at the lodge? Did you really want to get away?”

“Yes and no.”

“Explain.”

“I wanted to see if I could outsmart you, though honestly, I didn’t really want to. I mean, I was hoping I couldn’t.”

“Open wide.”

The delicious, salty caviar on a piece of dry toast hit her tongue.

“Thank you, that’s so good,” she murmured, washing it down with another drink.

“Were you scared when you were hiding?”

“Not at all,” she lied, instantly recalling how her heart had raced.

“Open up.”

Expecting the smoked salmon or more caviar, she bit down, realizing too late he’d fed her a raw pearl onion.

“That’s disgusting,” she stammered, spitting it into her free hand.

“You didn’t tell the truth, and be careful! You’ll tip over the tray.”
