Tony’s panicked cry echoed through the house.

“But she was tied up,” Matt called back.

“She’s not here.”

Though his legs were still wobbly, Matt gripped the banister, moved quickly up the stairs, and found Tony waiting anxiously outside the bedroom. Pushing past him and hastily stepping through the door, Matt stared at the empty bed, then the handcuffs dangling from the brass headboard.

“Nick fucking Vincelli,” he snarled, but as the anger bubbled up inside him, pain shot through his chest. Stumbling forward, he slumped on the edge of the mattress.

“Hey, Matt, are you okay?”

“No, I’m not fucking okay,” Matt snarled, reaching into his pocket.

Grabbing a bottle of tiny pills, he unscrewed the cap and popped one under his tongue, then tried to relax as he waited for the relief. As the medication took effect, he let out a long, heavy breath.

“What’s wrong with you?” Tony asked, standing over him.

“Angina, but I’ll be okay. It just takes a minute to work.”

“You never said anything about a fucking heart condition?”

“It’s nothing, I’m fine, I just need to keep the pills with me. See?” he exclaimed. “No problem, and we have more important things to think about.”

“Are you sure?”

“Tony, I’m sure,” Matt barked. “We need to talk about Bianca.”

“No shit,” Tony grunted. “How the fuck did she get away? Why were you passed out on the couch?”

“I’ve been giving her sleeping pills, but she must have stashed them and somehow got them into my drink. When I realized what she’d done, I handcuffed her to the bed.”

“I repeat, how the fuck did she get away?”

“I think I know,” Matt replied, his eyes narrowing. “She gave me the slip yesterday afternoon, and I found her quick enough, but she was on the beach talking to some guy, a real lifeguard type. I flashed my badge and he backed off. I’m thinking he must have come over here last night.”

“But there was a hurricane, or at least, what seemed like a hurricane,” Tony exclaimed. “I could barely make it in from town, and there are mudslides up and down the coast road. Look outside, it’s still pouring.”

“Regardless, it has to be him, it’s the only explanation.”

“Fuck,” Tony grunted, shoving his hands in his pockets. “I guess that’s it. We get out of town as fast as possible and head off to the middle of nowhere.”

“No way! We haven’t come this far to quit now,” Matt exclaimed angrily. “I’ve still got my resources. I’ll find her and that bastard. He’s a dead man walking. In the meantime, we’ll carry on as if we’ve still got her. Lorenzo will be none the wiser.”

CHAPTER6

Waking from a deep sleep and groggily opening her eyes, Bianca found herself staring at a porcelain figurine of a girl and a cat on a white nightstand with a glass top. She didn’t remember either from the night before, but as she became aware of her tender backside, her lips curled in a soft smile. The memory of Nick jerking her over his lap and spanking her, and the incredible orgasm that followed, was both unnerving and thrilling.

When she rolled over, he’d probably be next to her, but she needed to gather her thoughts before seeing him. Tentatively pushing her leg out behind her to see if he was still there, her foot found nothing. Shifting onto her back, she turned her head to the side. The bed was empty.

Sitting up and stretching her arms above her head, she stared around the room. It was tastefully furnished in blue and white with white crown molding, and an art deco wall clock that told her it was almost 9:45. After everything she’d been through, she wasn’t surprised she’d slept so late.

Matteus Anderson suddenly flashed through her head, then her parents, and her brother, Alfredo. A frown crossed her brow. Nick might know her father was the head of an organized crime family, but no outsider could truly understand what that could mean.

Slipping from the bed and padding across the room, she moved the drapes aside and found a windy, grayish day, but the rain had stopped. Thinking the storm was on its way out, and the clouds would clear to a sunny Southern California afternoon, she picked up her bag and carried it into the bathroom. Placing it on the counter, she locked the door, lifted Nick’s T-shirt over her head, and stepped into the shower. As she turned on the faucets, she had to smile. Not only was she out of danger, a sexy, handsome, hunky man had rescued her.

Sitting at the kitchen table waiting for Cindy to call him back, Nick munched on a muffin and downed the last of his coffee. The plan was one of the wildest he’d ever dreamed up. Initially his assistant thought he’d lost his mind, but as he’d outlined the details, she’d told him it was nothing short of sheer genius.
