He hoped the simple directives would help her self-control issues.

She also had to call him Sir, and thank him after he finished heating up her backside.

“I’m so glad you’re here,” she said gratefully as he walked towards her.

“Is there beer in the fridge?”

“Yes, Sir.”

Wandering into the kitchen, he opened the refrigerator and studied the contents. A block of cheese, two half empty bottles of white wine, a six pack, a half-gallon of milk, a container of cottage cheese, and an apple.

“There’s nothing decent to eat,” he declared, grabbing a can of beer and popping the top.

“There’s food on the set, Sir.”

“Uh-huh,” he mumbled, pausing a moment to stare out at the ocean.

A group of pelicans skimmed the top of the water, and a golden retriever splashed through the surf after a stick. The scene was idyllic. Perhaps having the beach as a front yard was worth the inconvenience.

“Zach? How am I going to get through this?” she suddenly blurted out. “I’m absolutely dreading it.”

“Remember, Anna, you’re now a professional,” he replied, turning around and walking back to her. “Professionals do what they must, and they do it with a smile. It can be a fake smile, and you can rant and rave when you come home, but on the set you do what’s required and remain pleasant.”

“I could do all that with anyone but him,” she groaned, a heavy frown crinkling her perfect brow. “He’s such an asshole.”

“I don’t disagree,” Zach said, sitting next to her. “Someone else used that word to describe him today, but Anna, he won’t be the last asshole you’ll have to kiss. Be professional. You’ll win everyone’s respect.”

“I’ll do my best, but just the thought of it...Zach, I’m a wreck.”

“No nude scenes today, right?”

“No, not today.”

“I don’t want you trying to explain a red backside.”

“Oh, I didn’t think of that!”

“I’m going to spank you hard. Do you know why?”

“You want my butt to hurt as a reminder that I have to behave, and because it calms me down.”

“Correct, and also, because you have no food in the house. I don’t care what is or isn’t on the set, you need food where you live! Decent food. You’re too thin.”

“I can’t eat when I’m nervous.”

“You’re not nervous every hour of every day! The next time I’m here I expect to see you’ve made an effort. No excuses. Do you understand?”

“Yes, Sir.”

“Now back to Jackson Wardlow. He’s a star, abigstar, and an outstanding actor. Use him to your advantage.”

“How?”

“Learn from him. Watch him. How does he prepare? Look for the tiny nuances in his face and speech that turn a simple line into a memorable moment. There’s a reason he has Oscars on his mantlepiece. Last, but just as important, ask for his advice. It will feed his ego. You want him as a friend, not an enemy.”

“Zach, you’re right. Thank you.”

“Sit there and think about that for a minute. When I come back you’re going to crawl over my knee.”
