“A kid’s movie? Are you sure about this?”

“No, not a kid’s movie, far from it. The title threw me too.”

“Tell me about it?”

“It’s a gripping story about a drug dealer who charms his way into the world of the mega rich. He’s making a fortune, then the daughter of one of his clients becomes addicted, but not just to the drugs. She and the dealer are crazy about each other. It’s a gritty story in a glamorous setting, and it deals with the horrendous opioid crisis facing this country. The thing is, I want—”

“It to be made yesterday,” Jerry said with a chuckle, interrupting him.

“Exactly,” Zach said with a grin.

“I’m glad you prefer paper,” Jerry muttered as he picked up the script. “I need to turn the pages, go back and forth, not stare at words on a machine. So...it’s current—tough subject—hot romance—sounds interesting.”

Zach’s heart skipped. It wasn’t a good sign, it was agreatsign.

“I can see Angelo Frattiano and Anna Lee for the leads,” Zach suggested. “It might help to picture them as you read it.”

“Putting ideas into my head already?”

“They’re the obvious choices, at least I think so. Of course, if you see it differently—”

“I’ll tell you,” Jerry declared, cutting him off. “I’ll give it a read over the next few days.”

“Terrific, thanks, Jerry.”

“You haven’t fumbled the ball yet, Zach, and I don’t expect this will be any different.”

“Knock on wood.”

“Wood, schmood, you’ve got the eye, the instinct, that’s why you’re here. I’ll be in touch,” Jerry mumbled, flipping through the pages.

Recognizing the signal to leave, Zach rose to his feet and walked quickly from the room. But as he closed the door behind him, he let out a breath.

“It’s amazing how Jerryhas that affect on people,” Kevin remarked. “Everyone feels the same when they leave his office. Even the other heavyweights.”

“It’s so strange how he oozes power,” Zach replied softly. “I wonder how it feels.”

“Um,—Zach—you already know.”

“Excuse me?”

“You’re a young version of that man. You’ll be him one day.”

“I doubt it, but thanks, Kevin. You always know the right thing to say.”

“Thanks, handsome,” Kevin said with a wink.

Grinning, and buoyed by the meeting and Kevin’s parting words, Zach left and headed back to his office.

“I have good tidings,” Martha declared as he entered the small reception area. “Miss Hollywood called and gave me her address. I emailed it to you.”

An unexpected bolt of energy surged through his body.

“She’s just around the corner and down the street,” Martha continued, raising her eyebrows. “Won’t that be handy?”

“Beats driving over the hill,” he replied, hoping he’d sounded casual. “Anything else?”

“Nothing as exciting as that.”
