He heard her fear.

“Not for a second,” he replied, then taking her hand and helping her up, he held her jacket as she slipped her arms into the sleeves.

“Will we just meander, or are we going somewhere special?” she asked as he guided her down the path.

“You’ll find out.”

“Tell me.”

“Such a demanding princess,” he said with a chuckle.

“Sorry. Could you please tell me where we’re going? Is that better?”

“Much. I’m taking you to a quiet spot where we can have some privacy.”










CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

UNDER A CANOPY OF TREESand surrounded by bushes, the secret spot offered complete privacy. As Zach brought Emma into his arms, she let out a heavy sigh and melted against him, but suddenly clutching her hair and tugging it back, he dropped his lips on hers in a passionate, demanding kiss. She responded, pressing against him and slipping her tongue between his teeth. As their fire ignited, he pulled back, pitched her head sideways, and moved his mouth to her neck. With the hunger of a vampire he devoured her skin, and she couldn’t suppress her cries.

“Emma Hartman,” he mumbled, moving his mouth to her ear, “you have such a lustful, passionate soul. Do you remember my offer?”

“Uh, yes,” she replied breathlessly, sure her legs would give way if he let her go.

“Do you want to accept it?”

“Uh...yes,” she panted, feeling her face flame red.

“There’s a condition. You have to ask.”

“Ask?” she squeaked. “But, uh, why?”

“Because I said so.”

Trying to catch her breath, she mumbled, “Please, Zach, will you...?”
