THE MENTION OF CONTINENTALmade Emma’s heart skip. Her father had clout. He made things happen.

“Thanks, dad,” she said softly, and lifting the spicy, bubbling wine she took a long sip. “That is so good. Speaking of Continental and Zach Taylor, he lectured at my class a few times, did I tell you?”

“No, maybe, I don’t recall.”

“He talked about the changes that are coming in the industry because of the fast pace of technology. He’s a great communicator. I’d love to work for him.”

As her father tilted his head and studied her, she suspected he’d picked up on her ulterior motive.

“Do you want to talk to your dear old dad about this guy?”

“How do you do that?”

“Do what?”

“Dad! Stop it. You read my mind.”

“Guilty,” he said with a chuckle. “It’s not rocket science. Zach Taylor is a good-looking guy, he’s single, and he’s one of the up-and-comers. I can see why you’d be interested in him.”

“Actually, I’m not sure I am. He’s, uh, he’s different.”

“Different? That’s a dangerous word,” her father remarked, raising his eyebrows. “What’s going on with Angelo?”

“We’ve had a few arguments lately, and he has only one topic of conversation. Himself. Sorry, make that two topics of conversation. Himself and whatever script he’s reading.”

“He’s an actor, honey. That’s how most of them are. You know that better than anyone, and every couple has arguments.”

“I suppose.”

“Sounds to me like you’re tired of him.”

“Maybe you’re right.”

“Regardless, dating your boss isn’t a good idea. If I can get you into Continental, you should start in their cable division and stay away from Zach. With all the sexual harassment concerns these days—”
