CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT

OVER DINNER, WHEN ZACHtold Emma about the pile up on Pacific Coast Highway and Kurt’s disappearance, she suggested he’d probably caused the collision and bolted before the police arrived.

“But where the hell does he think he can go?” she exclaimed. “The police are sure to be watching his house.”

“If he was high, and I suspect he was, when he comes to his senses he’ll probably try to get out of town, but enough about him. Let’s take our wine and relax in the living room. I want to know all about you.”

“And I want to know about you too. What planet did you come from, Superman?”

Laughing, he took her hand and led her into the living room. Curling up on the couch and drinking the smooth cabernet, they discovered their backgrounds couldn’t have been more different.

Being the daughter of one of Hollywood’s most celebrated directors had been a blessing and curse. She’d loved attending glamorous events, but quickly learned many people were only kind to her because they wanted to win his favor. Her mother was another story. She’d appear for days, then disappear for weeks, turning Emma’s early years into an emotional roller coaster.

Zach had heard similar stories. The entertainment business could be tough on relationships. By contrast, he’d grown up in the San Fernando Valley, blessed with a stable, loving family. His father was an internist, his mother a homemaker, and he had two younger sisters who adored him. He’d always dreamed of working in the film industry, but being an outsider with no connections, it hadn’t been easy breaking in.

“You did it though,” Emma declared. “See, you are Superman.”

“I’m super determined,” he retorted with a wink. “When I want something I don’t stop until I get it, and I want you in my bed right now, but to get some rest. You look exhausted and I am too.”

Making their way up the stairs, they stripped off, curled up together, and quickly fell asleep. But the following morning, when Zach woke up with Emma’s naked body wrapped around his, he slid his fingers into her sex, eliciting a soft moan. Shifting onto her back and spreading her legs, she whispered his name and mumbled her need. Quickly sheathing his rampant cock, he moved on top of her, snaked his member into her hot, wet depths, and rode her slowly, taking his time and milking the pleasure. Only when she was begging did he pull out, position her on her hands and knees, then thrust back inside, vigorously stroking until they were both gasping through a tingling climax.

After a blissful doze, they shared a morning shower, then over coffee and muffins he told her what to expect when she arrived at Continental Pictures.

“Your appointment with Jerry is at eleven, and Martha will take you up to his office. Nothing’s official until you meet with him.”

“I can’t wait to start.”

“It’s a great company, but Jerry is old-school. He runs a tight ship and gets things done. I gave him a script late last week, and I had an answer in a matter of days.”

“Really? Dad says getting a script off the ground is like walking through mud laced with molasses, and you’re lucky if you don’t fall into quicksand while you’re trudging through it.”

“He’s right,” Zach said with a chuckle, “but not at Continental, and Jerry is hands on with every project. I think that’s why his company has become so successful. Damn, look at the time. I have to go.”

“Let me grab my stuff,” she said, jumping up from the table. “I’ll be right back, then you can kiss me and send me on my way.”
