“Steph, John is never around, yet he’s stifling me, but that’s another story. What I’ll be doing—assuming it actually happens—is thanks to you.”
“Me? What did I do?”
“You introduced me to Tony. I still can’t believe this has all happened in twenty-four hours.”
“No kidding, and I’ve just had a thought,” Stephanie declared, her eyes lighting up. “Rather than tell you, come back to the house and I can show you.”

TEN MINUTES LATER,Stephanie ushered Stella into her sewing room and handed her a sketch pad.
“Take a look at these and tell me what you think.”
“This stuff is super!” Stella said excitedly as she turned the pages. “Where did you learn to do this?”
“I studied clothing design in college. It’s something I’ve always wanted to pursue. The point is, if you end up doing this, you should have some very special outfits, and I can make them for you.”
“Tony said he knows what I should wear, and he’s planning to buy me some things, but these are wonderful,” Stella remarked as she turned the pages. “Maybe the two of you could join forces. It would be so much fun if the three of us were in this together.”
“I’d love to be involved,” Stephanie said eagerly. “In fact, you’ve inspired me to create a separate line...leather I think Yes! You’ll have to help me come up with a name.”
Stella laughed, then sighed.
She was embarking on a secret life.
One she couldn’t wait to start.
“Stephanie, I can’t thank you enough,” Stella said, fighting an unexpected wave of emotion. “But I must get home. Sometimes John will call the house, not my cell phone, just to check up on me. If I’m not there I end up being interrogated.”
“You deserve so much better,” Stephanie said solemnly, hugging her friend. “I hope this new—what should I call it? Venture?”
“Maybeadventure,” Stella suggested as they broke apart.
“Yes,adventure, I hope it results in really good things for you. I’d like to see John groveling at your feet, that’s for sure.”
“I can’t imagine that will ever happen, but you never know. Life is full of surprises.”
