CHAPTER NINETEEN

AS TONY HAD DRIVENout of the motor court and headed home, he guessed Stella’s encounter with Matt would have left her wanting more than a cup of coffee and a chat. When they arrived as his house and walked inside, he wasn’t surprised when she draped herself around him, and seductively pressed her body against his.

“Stella, are you trying to tell me something?” he asked with a chuckle.

“You’re such a tease.”

“And you’re gorgeous. Far be it for me to turn down a beautiful lady in need.”

“God forbid. If word got out it would damage your reputation,” she quipped with a giggle.

He nuzzled her neck as they made their way up to his bedroom, but as they stepped through the door, Stella gasped and turned her head, while Tony stared in shock. Lying on his bed, completely naked, Heather stared up at them.

“Tony, what took you so long?” she asked with a sassy grin, then darted her eyes to Stella. “Hi, I’m Heather. Aren’t you Stella Stanley?”

Tony gaped at her in disbelief, then took a step forward.

“Stay right where you are,” he ordered sternly, barely able to control his anger. “I mean it, Heather! Don’t move!”

“I have no intention of moving” she crooned, trailing her fingers across her belly.

Placing his arm around Stella’s shoulders, he bustled away, then down the stairs and into the garage.

“Whoever she is, she’s very cute,” Stella remarked, “and clearly the poor girl couldn’t help herself.”

“She certainly could,” Tony retorted. “She let herself in and—“

“Tony, she’s obviously crazy about you,” Stella interjected. “We all do stupid things when our feelings are running amok.”

“Perhaps, but she’s also very spoiled and does whatever she pleases,” Tony said brusquely as they reached Stella’s car. “She’s about to learn that doesn’t work with me. I’ll call you later. Maybe we can have dinner.”

“Sorry honey pie,” she said, disappointment in her voice. “I have a feeling John will be coming home. But if he doesn’t I’ll let you know.”

“Okay, and I’ll make sure I’m available to take you to Matt’s tomorrow.”

“Actually,” she said slowly, “I’m happy to go by myself. But can you handle the money thing?”

“Of course. We can talk in the morning after John leaves, assuming he shows up.”

“I’m pretty sure he will. I can’t say why I know that, but I do,” she said as he opened the car door for her.

Pecking her on the check as she settled behind the wheel, he stood back and waited until she was driving away, then marched back into the house and up to his bedroom.

“Stella Stanley?” Heather murmured, saying the name as if asking a question. “Are you having an affair Tony? Aren’t there enough single women in Malibu for you?”

Taking a deep breath, he folded his arms and moved towards her.

“Tell me what you’re doing here.”

“I missed you,” she said, her smile fading as she let out a heavy sigh, “and I wanted to surprise you.”

“By breaking into my house? You thought I’d be pleased about that?”

“You mean you’re not?” she asked innocently, then started laughing. “Sorry, it’s just...you should have seen your face.”

Taking a breath, he stepped closer and glowered down at her.
