CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

STRETCHED OUT ON Alounger on his terrace and drinking iced tea, Tony pondered the exciting news he’d just received from Stephanie. She had canceled her tennis lesson because of her new project, Luscious Lingerie, and Tia was her partner. Tony had no doubt the supermodel’s presence would assure notoriety for the sexy new clothing line, and the two of them would make a terrific team.

He’d had only one client that day, and the lesson had been so much fun he almost felt guilty charging his exorbitant fee. Thanks to some wise investments he didn’t need the money, and he idly wondered if he should stop teaching. But there wasn’t much else he had to do with his time, and for the most part, he enjoyed giving the lessons to the beautiful women who hired him.

“Tony!”

Looking up, he grinned as Heather bounced up the steps from the sand.

“Here’s trouble,” he chuckled as she kissed him on the cheek.

“I’m not trouble, and if I was I’d be the best kind.”

“Knowing you, you’ll probably beintrouble and over my knee if you stick around long enough.”

“Maybe,” she quipped with a sassy smile.

“Why are you here?”

“I saw you from my window and wanted to say hello.”

“I should talk to your father. He needs to find you a bedroom on the other side of the house.”

“You don’t like me stopping by?” she asked, settling into the lounge chair next to his and stretching out her long, tanned legs.

In spite of his remarks, he was happy to see her, and he roamed his eyes over her delectable body. But as much as he was drawn to her, he found her lack of ambition disturbing.

“Heather, I need to ask you something, and I won’t mince words. Aren’t you bored? Don’t you have any goals or aspirations?”

“I don’t want to talk about that,” she replied, then let out a sigh and closed her eyes.

“Because?”

“I said I don’t want to talk about it. This was a mistake. I’m out of here!”

“You’re not going anywhere,” he said firmly, grabbing her arm as she stood up. “Tell me what’s going on. It was a simple question. Why did it make you so uncomfortable?”

“It didn’t...not uncomfortable. More like frustrated, annoyed...and all the other words that mean that sort of thing. Irritated, aggravated—”

“Hey, you can stop. What’s the problem? Maybe I can help.”

She took a breath, then fixed him with a fierce stare.

“You have to promise not to laugh or say anything negative.”
