“As far as I know. If she wasn’t I would have heard about it. Jennifer doesn’t keep her feelings to herself.”

“Sadly this is true,” John muttered. “Are you and your wife going to Matt’s big bash?”

“Matt’s my client and the star of the number one sitcom in the country, what do you think?”

For the first time in several days, John laughed.

“I guess I’ll see you there.”

As the call ended, John thought about the rumor he’d heard. Apparently Jennifer Olsen was sleeping with her director. He wouldn’t be surprised. She was ambitious, and the old saying sprang to mind.If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.John grinned. When the production ended Terry would returned to England, and Jennifer might be looking for a new interest, one that could help her climb even further up the ladder. Wishing he had the time to wander down to the set and say hello, he let out a frustrated sigh and went back to work. There would be time enough for Jennifer Olsen. His personal priority was ridding himself of Sue Jackson. But clearing his head of the worrisome woman, he concentrated on his task at hand.

IT WAS ALMOST SIX-THIRTY. John hadn’t left his desk all day and had finished a mountain of work. Standing up, he stretched his arms above his head and glanced out the window. The sun was low, and the sky had a faint purple haze to it. Fall was kicking in. Grunting, he cursed himself for allowing Sue Jackson to have distracted him so badly. Swearing it would never happen again, he opened his door and poked out his head. Gladys raised her eyes and smiled across at him.

“Finally out from under?”

“I am!” he exclaimed triumphantly.

“And you’re hungry because you skipped lunch.”

“Yep. Can you get me some fresh coffee and a couple of roast beef sandwiches from upstairs?”

“Sure thing.”

Closing his door, he let out a heavy breath.

He’d be out of there by seven o’clock.

Exhausted from the busy day, he decided to stay at his apartment.

He couldn’t call it his sanctuary anymore.

The word meant safe haven, and it wouldn’t be that again until the she-devil Sue Jackson was out of his life. A deep frown carved his forehead. He was determined to figure out how she had located his phone numbers, but he didn’t know where to start.

His focus changed to the night ahead.

Not wanting to spend it alone, he sat down and called Heidi. His instructions were as usual. Busty and young..His date would arrive at 7 pm.
