CHAPTER FORTY

JUST A SHORT WALK DOWNthe beach in Tony’s home, Heather had just finished her fifth song. It was a ballad that had given her the opportunity to take her voice to its full range. Tony was mesmerized.

“I don’t need to hear any more,” he declared. “The pop/rock song,Green Eyes Monstershould be first, followed by the ballad. It was amazing.”

“Thank you! I’m so glad you liked it and I was thinking exactly the same thing.”

“Now we need to talk about your image. Do you have any thoughts?”

“My image? Uh, no. I live in shorts or jeans and cut off tank tops. When I put on one of those expensive outfits my mother buys me I feel like I’m suffocating. Why does she keep trying to push me into things she knows I don’t like?”

“I suspect that will change once you’re a star selling millions of records—and you’re right. You need to stick with who you are. Authenticity matters, but maybe we can give your clothes some pizzazz.”

“What do you mean by pizzazz?”

“I’m not really sure. An outfit that stays true to who you are but with some showbiz glitz.”

“Where can we find someone to do that?”

“I know the perfect person,” he said grinning, and picking up his phone he called Stephanie.

“Hi, Tony, what’s up?” Stephanie asked as she accepted his call.

“I have a client for you and she’s at my house, but this won’t be about lingerie. I know you’ve got your big show tonight so if you’re too busy I’ll understand.”

“It’s all under control. In fact, I’m frighteningly organized. I keep thinking I must have forgotten something.”

“Would you mind coming over? I could explain, but it would be faster and easier if you could just stop by.”

“I’ll be on your deck in five minutes.”

“Was that Tia Goldman?” Heather asked as he ended the call. “I’ve heard she’s starting her own lingerie business.”

“No, Stephanie Baxter, she’s the designer, Tia’s her partner.”

“That makes sense. The world knows Tia. But isn’t Stephanie too busy? How will she have the time to help us? Why would she even be interested?”

“I’m not sure she will be, but we’ll soon find out.”

“We’re about to find out right now,” Heather remarked, nodding towards the sliding glass doors. “She must live really close by.”

Turning around and seeing Stephanie on the deck, Tony hurried across the room.

“Hey, Stephanie, thanks again for coming over,” he said, opening the door and ushering her inside. “How did you get here so fast?”

“I was already walking along the beach and I was halfway here,” she replied as she entered. “Wow, Tony, this place is gorgeous. You have great taste.”
