Chapter 20

Ilanded with a flop on my bed. He strode toward me with a wicked grin.

I giggled and tried to kick out, preventing him from getting on the bed, but he simply pinned my ankles down and continued at a leisurely pace to crawl up my body.

“What are you doing?” I held onto his shoulders in a weak attempt to hold him off. I liked all this teasing and playing, but I couldn’t predict what his next move would be.

“I’m ravishing you.”

My brows shot up. “You are?”

He nodded while dragging the tip of his tongue across his bottom lip. How would that feel against my skin? My neck? I gasped when his eyes darkened.

Shit.

He heard that.

“Yes, I did, and I’m more than happy to show you.”

I seriously needed to work on my mental shield. I was making progress but only when I was paying attention to that. I knew stray thoughts slipped out but the guys must have agreed not to call me out on them for now. I wasn’t sure what was worse? Having him know all my thoughts and him saying something or not.

He pulled back, the teasing and flirting gone. “It’s just you and me, Saige. There’s nothing to be embarrassed about.”

I stared into his eyes and saw the promise. I sucked in a breath and nodded.

“We never got a honeymoon. We didn’t even get to celebrate our bonding properly.” He ducked his head and nuzzled his nose against my neck, pressing a delicate kiss.

My eyes closed on instinct, and I rolled my head to give him better access. “I thought we said we would take things slow.”

“We are,” he said between tender kisses. “Slow doesn’t mean we can’t do anything.”

He was right. Oh, so very right.

I shivered as his teeth dragged along the sensitive skin over my thumping pulse. It was a harsh reminder of what he was.

“Do you ever?” I wasn’t sure how to word my question.

“Ever what?” He traced his tongue over that spot.

“Want to feed?”

He pulled back enough to meet my eyes. “It’s forbidden. I can quell any craving with the blood I get from the farm.”

I reached up and stroked his jaw with my thumb. “But do you want to?”

He sighed. “I can’t lie to you. Yes, I want to.”

“Can’t you? We’re bonded. That seems like something that could be allowed.”

He dropped his forehead against my shoulder. “Bonds usually take place between same species, so a vampire feeding off their vampire mate isn’t a big deal. We’re not normal.”

Fine. I didn’t want to push him. Not in this delicate situation. The last thing I wanted right now was to push him away. We could talk this through later.

Instead, I ran my hands over his back, taking in the rise and fall of muscles until I reached the hem. I froze when my fingers touched his skin, waiting.

Was this what he wanted, or was I completely off base?

What did slow mean?
