I grinned and turned back to Abi. “See, we’re set. We’ll hang out while you rest. If you point me in the direction of your laundry room, I can help with that, or do dishes. Whatever would take something off your to-do list.”

She wiped her teary eyes. “Thank you. It would be really nice to shower and wash my hair without rushing.”

“Go ahead. We’re just fine. Okay? Don’t worry about him.”

She looked at him again before smiling and heading down the hall.

I stayed with Tyson, making sure he was comfortable, before going to the kitchen and unloading the dishwasher and filling it with the few bowls and cups in the sink, then tidying up the front rooms.

Tyson came to me while I was wiping down the counters, and we worked together to communicate that he was hungry and wanted a grilled cheese, which was something I was able to successfully make.

Four hours later, I developed a major headache and zero desire to have my own children—ever, after listening to poor Abi get sick over and over again. I hoped she was able to rest, but doubted it. Maybe there was a potion Serene and I could make to help her when she was ready for people to know.

When I got home, I drew the curtains and collapsed on the bed, basking in the silence.

I hadn’t meant to fall asleep, but when soft voices pulled me from the peaceful darkness, I glanced at the clock and saw three hours had passed. The guys were already home.

The door creaked open, and Sai peeked in. “You’re awake?”

I sat up, grateful I was feeling better. “Yeah, I didn’t mean to sleep for so long.”

“It’s okay.” He stepped into the room with Theo following, holding a plate.

“We saved some dinner for you. None of us wanted to wake you. You’re not normally the napping type, so you must have been exhausted.”

The sweet scene of pancakes and maple syrup reached me, and I grinned. “That smells so good. Thank you, guys.”

I adjusted to lean against the pillows, and Theo sat the plate on my lap.

“You’re welcome.” Sai climbed onto the bed, sitting on my right as Theo settled on my left. “What did you do today?”

I took my first bite and nearly moaned at the sugary, fluffy goodness. This was just what I needed. “I babysat.”

Theo shivered. “I’d pass out too. Kids are exhausting.”

“Says the only child.” Sai laughed.

“Hey! So are you,” Theo shot back.

“But I’m not complaining,” he countered.

“It was actually for Abi, Steven’s wife. She needed someone to watch their youngest son for a few hours so she could rest. She hasn’t been feeling well lately.”

“She should come into the clinic,” Theo immediately suggested.

“Yeah.” That was probably the last thing she wanted to do. I had a feeling word would spread fast from there, even with doctor-patient confidentiality. Shifter hearing was hard to stop.

Sai and Theo told me about their days while I finished eating. Kaden and Niall were on patrol tonight, so they were going to sleep with me.

“Did you guys intentionally split up like this?” I asked after Sai sat my empty plate on the bedside table.

“What do you mean?” Theo asked.

“It’s always you two, and Niall and Kaden. Did I miss a discussion where you guys made that decision?”

Sai chuckled. “No, there wasn’t a meeting or anything. It sort of happens naturally.”

“Sai and I have known we were bond mates almost the entire time we’ve known each other. We went from being friends to brothers, waiting to find you. We’ve had years to accept we were going to be sharing a mate.” Theo rubbed my thigh.
