“Of course not,” Kaden assured.

“We could go somewhere totally random and start over. Keep who we are, what we are, a secret.” I offered.

“Live as humans?” Kaden asked.

I thought it over. “Maybe it could work. We could change our appearances. Niall might even know the spell that could help us.”

“But for how long?” I could hear the exhaustion in her words. “How long would we have to keep that up? Our entire lives? Where's the end?”

Her body shuddered beneath my hand, and I squeezed her to me, wishing I could give her more comfort.

Kaden stared at me for a minute before shaking his head. Neither of us knew.

The door opened, and we didn't see anyone for a second before a wheelchair entered with Sai sitting in it and Niall pushing him.

“There you are.” Saige lifted her head, and Sai’s face instantly dropped.

“What happened? What's wrong?”

She wiped her face and sniffed. “I’m fine.”

Her voice was too breathy to be believable.

Niall shot me a look before turning to Kaden and closing the door behind him. “What's going on?”

There was no use in trying to keep anything from our bond.

“We're trying to figure out what comes next.”

Niall pushed Sai to the foot of my bed, then came and lifted Saige’s legs into his lap, so there was room for him to sit next to us. “I've been thinking about that too.”

“What do you guys mean?” Sai asked. “The Alpha basically said we can’t leave.”

“Things have changed. This attack proved we can't stay here,” I told him, hating the truth.

“Other packs know about us, and news will spread quickly now that there's a bounty on us. We can't just sit here waiting for the next attack to happen,” Kaden explained.

“But where will we go?” Sai circled his questioning eyes around the group.

“We don't know,” I admitted.

“Maybe Alaska? Rainer said it wasn’t ready, but we might not have a choice.” Sai offered.

“How much time do you think we have?” Kaden asked Niall.

“It’s hard to say. I looked through the message boards last night, but there's not a single new comment. I’m starting to wonder if they figured out someone in the pack knew what they were doing.”

Great. The slight head start we had was gone.

The front of my hospital gown grew damp. The entire time, Saige had been silently crying. I squeezed her tighter, and Niall rubbed her legs.

“We'll figure something out,” he promised.

He would keep his word, and I had faith in his abilities to solve even this problem.

“I'm so sorry,” I whispered into her hair before placing a kiss on the top of her head.

Saige sniffed. “I thought I could get to know my grandfather and uncles and learn more about my dad. I thought I found my family. I should have known better and not gotten my hopes up.”
