“What is a hard core moviegoer?”

“Someone who sits on the blanket,” Luke said.

She snorted and then handed over the candy.

“You joining us, Quinn?” Piper asked.

“I am.”

Introductions to the members of his family she hadn’t already met were done, and then Quinn sat on the edge of the Trainer blanket at the back, as far from where Luke had been sitting as she possibly could.

Luke gave his family their supplies and then joined her. He sat beside her, his arm brushing hers when she moved. The woman smelled good. He was fairly sure it was just essence of Quinn, but it played hell with his senses.

She inched away from him, frowning.

“You keep doing that, you’ll get lines.”

She looked at him. Their eyes locked. It was Quinn who pulled away first.

Interesting. Luke couldn’t remember reacting to a woman like this in a long while. If ever.

“I like to frown.”

“There’s certainly a place for it,” Luke said. “Like using your phone and not being present when you are talking to someone.”

“I hate that one,” Nash said, clearly eavesdropping

“Texting in shouty caps,” Luna added. She was sitting between Nash’s raised legs, leaning on them.

“Getting on public transport and someone uses the only spare seat for their briefcase or bag,” Maggie said.

“Yeah, that’s a real kicker,” Fin drawled. Luke was fairly sure that had never happened to him, as he was the park ranger and never used public transport.

“When you’re having five minutes in a cafe to read or just be, and some loser comes in and has a phone conversation on speaker,” Piper said.

They all agreed that was annoying.

“What does ‘just be’ include?” Jack asked.

“Like Zen and stuff is my guess,” Joe said.

“United in thought and feeling,” Dylan added. He was sifting his fingers through his slumbering son’s hair.

“What I hate is when people scrape butter on the side of their plate and I’m on dishes,” Piper said.

“The point here is,” he said into Quinn’s ear while the debate heated up around them about what else annoyed them. “I’m not sure a movie with your friends and family should be something that makes you frown. But then maybe something else has you frowning?”

Was it because he’d kissed her?

“Monica was in town helping her parents do Mrs. L’s windows the other day,” Joe said. “She did a good job.”

“Damn, I missed her. Love that pony,” Maggie said.

“Pony?” Quinn asked, inching farther away from him. He placed his hand over hers, where it was braced behind her.

“It’s a story,” Joe said. He sat with his wife between his legs, her back resting on his front. In her lap was Ella.

Love was all around them, Luke thought. Once he’d not known the meaning of the word. These people had helped him to understand.

“Monica has a friend who is a duck,” Luke explained. “The Facebook page had a poll for naming rights.”

“Quackzilla was my personal favorite,” Dylan said.

Quinn giggled. A sweet sound, and one Luke was sure he wanted to hear again. Looking at her side profile, he thought maybe there was something just a bit dangerous about Quinn Harper. Especially considering the taste of her was now in his head. The hell of it was, he didn’t seem to be able to move away from her, even though something inside him was telling him to run.
