Pushing up from her seat, she lifted her hands above her head and stretched, letting out a sexy little moan. He bit back a groan but couldn’t ignore the sudden flood of erotic images the sound evoked. Would she moan like that if he kissed her, if he pressed his body against hers, if he slid his hand into those little linen shorts she wore?

He shook his head. He couldn’t have thoughts like that. Or, heshouldn’thave thoughts like that because obviously hecould. He’d been having them since she’d kissed him the night before and blew his fucking mind.

“You ready?”

Doing a quick check of the front of his pants to make sure he was presentable, he choked out, “Yeah, I’m ready.”

She eyed him before finally giving him a quick nod. “Sorry I fell asleep on you,” she told him as they walked toward her room. “I promise you weren’t boring me, I was just tired.”

“You were the one doing all the talking,” he reminded her. “So, if someone was boring…”

She jammed her elbow into his rib. It stung a little, but he smiled anyway.

“I’ve never claimed to be exciting,” she warned him. “I probably did bore myself to sleep.”

He doubted Courtney could be boring if she tried. And he had the feeling she was trying. Here on this cruise, she could be the center of attention if she wanted. She was young, beautiful, mature. Though he sensed she’d lost some of the confidence he’d once heard so much about, he didn’t doubt she could find it again one day. That tiger he’d sensed on day one was still lurking behind her deer veneer.

“Excitement comes in all kinds of forms,” he explained. “Tonight, listening to you talk while watching the stars in the middle of the ocean definitely counted as exciting.”

A blush worked up her neck then into her cheeks. “That’s . . . uh . . . that’s very nice of you to say.”

They stopped outside her door.

“I wouldn’t have said it if I didn’t mean it. I had a great time.”

She stared at her hands, fidgeting with the bare ring finger on her left hand. Was she thinking about her husband? Probably. Did she wish he was here with her? Again, probably. But could it be possible she was glad to be here with Seth instead and felt guilty? Another possibility.

Finally, she raised her gaze to his. Her lips turned up just enough to showcase the slight dimple in her right cheek. “I did too. I’m glad our roommates . . . well, I’m glad you came to hang out.”

She pressed her bracelet against the door lock. When the light turned green, she pushed the door open and stepped inside. Seth started to move in behind her, but she turned, blocking his way.

“I . . . uh . . . I don’t think it’s a good idea if you come in with me.”

The shock of her words hit him like that first smack of heat when he got too close to a fire.

“Um, okay.”

She sighed. “It’s just that . . . I mean, I don’t think it’s a good idea for you to come in here. I know you were supposed to stay here, but I—"

“Courtney, I didn’t come here to hook up with you. I would never pressure you into anything.”

Still nervously rubbing at her finger, she nodded. “I know. It’s not you I’m worried about.”

Now the shock of her words was less like battling a fire and more like an inferno raging through him, igniting need and hunger. Did Courtney want him too? Sure, she’d kissed him the night before, but she’d been drunk. Tonight, she was sober. If giving her time meant he might get the chance to know her better, he could wait.

Leaning closer, he pressed a chaste kiss to her forehead. The sigh she released sent shivers down his body. “Good night, Corey,” he whispered as he pulled away. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Nodding, she stepped away then closed the door between them. Seth turned and headed back to the deck. He didn’t know if Zack and Ashley were still using his room. It didn’t matter, he wouldn’t be able to sleep right now anyway. Courtney might not be ready to sleep with him tonight, but she did want him. He didn’t mind waiting until she was ready for him.

CHAPTERNINE

Courtney trudgedfrom the yoga studio to the juice bar. She’d hoped sweating through one of the hot yoga sessions would take her mind off Seth. Nope. Instead, she’d just thought of her sweaty body and his sliding against each other. The same way she had all night. She almost wished she’d dragged him into her room and had her way with him. Surely, having sex with Seth wouldn’t have been as world-altering as that forehead kiss. Okay, so yes, sex with Seth would most certainly be life-altering. But that kiss. That simple press of his lips against her forehead. He’d nearly crushed her with that kiss. She’d never been one for sleeping around, not that she’d ever seen anything wrong with it, she just hadn’t participated. She’d always assumed she wouldn’t be able to bare herself to a practical stranger so casually. But Seth’s simple kiss had left her feeling bared and exposed in a whole new way. And she wasn’t sure what to do with it.

“It’s too early for you to be thinking so hard.”

Recognizing the voice of the helpful penis cane lady, Courtney turned unsure what she might find. The older woman stood, cane in hand, studying Courtney.

Courtney shrugged. “I have some things to think about and they don’t seem to care what time it is.”
