“Please don’t do that.”

“Do what?” Her voice had taken on a deeper, husky tone.

He pressed closer, until his chest bumped against her folded arms. “Hide yourself from me.”

“I wasn’t.”

Grasping her biceps, he slid his hands down to her forearms and pried her arms apart. “I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable. In the future, I’ll try not to stare.”

A red blush crept up her neck as she glanced down. “It’s okay.” She straightened, and although she still didn’t meet his stare head on, she at least faced him as she said, “You don’t make me uncomfortable. I’m just not used to it.”

“Used to what?”

She eyed him before shaking her head. “I thought maybe you liked . . .”

“You thought maybe I liked what I saw?” he teased.

“I’m sorry, I’m out of practice maybe—”

He pressed his lips against hers, stealing her protest. For a moment she sat frozen as he sipped from her lips. When she didn’t respond, he began to pull away. Maybe he’d misread all the cues. Or maybe she’d thought she was ready until he actually kissed her. His withdraw must have snapped her into action, because she pressed forward, resting her hands on his shoulders. Her skin was warm, matching the warmth spreading through his own body. He tugged her closer, almost into his lap. When her leg brushed against his hardening dick, he thought his body would combust. Never in his life had need flared so hot and bright within him. Thank God he was sitting on the beach so no one could see the tent forming in his trunks.

Shit. He was sitting on the beach, surrounded by strangers. Families. He pulled back enough to break the kiss but not enough that they lost contact.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered.

She blinked. “Sorry? I wasn’t expecting that.”

Oh shit. He couldn’t let her think he had any regrets. “No, not for kissing you. Not if you wanted it. Did you . . . want it?”

Her gaze dipped to his lap, then quickly shot back to his face. She nodded.

“And can I do it again?”

She swallowed but gave another nod. “Yes, whenever you like.”

He leaned over and took her mouth again, because in that moment he couldn’t think of anything more he’d like than Courtney’s mouth against his.

CHAPTERTEN

“So?”Ashley started the moment Courtney stepped out of the bathroom.

“So?” Courtney repeated, tugging the towel from her hair.

Ashley rolled her eyes. “You’re playing coy? Fine. So, when are you going to sleep with Seth?”

Although Courtney had been asking herself the same question all day, hearing someone else voice it caused little butterflies to alight in her stomach. “Who said I’m going to sleep with Seth?”

Ashley stared back at her blank-faced. “The tongue-fucking he gave you on the beach today definitely hinted at the possibility.”

“He did not give me a tongue fucking.” Though now that Ashley had put the thought in her head, Courtney couldn’t help but wonder how Seth’s tongue would feel between her thighs. A true tongue-fucking.

“Not yet,” Ashley sang.

Heat rose up Courtney’s neck and into her cheeks. She could deny Ashley’s claim, but protesting was useless. She wanted Seth, and Ashley knew her well enough to recognize it.

Ashley came to stand behind her, offering a sympathetic smile. “If it means anything to you, I’m one hundred percent on board for this.”

Courtney met her friend’s gaze in the mirror. “You’ve been on board for years now. If it were up to you, I would’ve had sex at Kyle’s wake.”
