Chapter Fourteen

“Looks like the gang'sall here,” I say as I put the car in park.Xander and I climb out, and grab the bag from the back seat to meet him by the trunk to retrieve the gifts.

“I hope everyone likes what I got them,” I say, tugging at one of the bags and grabbing another.

“I think you bought out the store,” Xander says, laughing with his hands full of bags, as well.

We walk up the steps, and the door swings open, “Merry Christmas,” my Mom says and waves us in.“Hi, Mom,” we’re greeted with the scent of the Prime Rib waffling through the air.

“Smells delicious, Mr.Johnson,” Xander says in greeting with a kiss on her cheek.

“Thank you, thank you.”She points toward the living room as we walk in and add the gifts under the tree.

Once everything is down, I turn and walk into the dining room, where the boys are.

“Ah, the man cave,” I say, walking around the table and placing a kiss on my dad, Jacob, and Diesel’s cheeks.

“You will find your man where there is food and drink.”Dad laughs, holding up his bottle of Bud Light.

I stop, roll my eyes and watch while DJ pushes a toy car back and forth, making sounds.

“What’s up, little man?”I kiss the top of his head.Xander shakes everyone’s hand and pulls the chair at the end of the table to join them.I excuse myself to the kitchen to find my sisters.

During the holidays, we all usually help Mom in the kitchen. We all have our specialties.Mom makes the main course, Dani makes desserts, Nicki provides the holiday drinks, and I make the Antipasto salad and Mozzarella with tomato and basil platter.

“What are we drinking tonight?”I ask, bumping shoulders with Nicki. She raises her hands and shakes the aluminum container.“Candy Canes or Egg nog,” She says, nodding toward the counter.

A plate with crushed candy canes sits beside the bottle of Strawberry vodka, creme de menthe, cranberry juice, and a tray of ice.

“Yummy!”Mom says, sipping and handing one over to me.“There is beer in the fridge for the men, as always.”

I pull the fridge open and yell into the dining room, “Who needs a refill?”I grab three bottles and tuck one under my arm so I can grab my glass.Luckily, I made my salads before coming, so I had less work in the kitchen.
