Chapter Three

––––––––

Ipull up onto CedarLane, and it begins to rain, just my luck.I park on the opposite side of the street, and as soon as the car door closes behind me, thunder crashes and the rain comes down in buckets.Without hesitation, I dash across the street and straight to the front door of the Wig Wam.I yank the heavy wood door open and walk through the curtain, dripping wet.

Goosebumps form immediately. My nipples harden, and I cross my arms quickly. The cool air is not helping, especially since my t-shirt is soaked.

“Keni, take a table.I’ll be back in a minute,” Nicki calls out from behind the bar, and I walk past the few regulars and slide into the back corner booth.

“Here,” Nicki throws a dry shirt at me.I grab it and jump up from the booth to go around the corner to the lady’s room.

I use the hand blower to dry my hair and then change my shirt. When I return, Diesel comes from the kitchen with a plate of fries and a sampler platter.

With a kiss on my cheek, he places them on the table, and Nicki shuffles over with two beers.

“How was work?”She asks, taking a seat.It must be her break time.

“Fun, we get to do it again on Monday,” I say sarcastically. She slides the plate in front of me, offering some of her fried food platter.

“No thanks, I have plans.I do need to place an order before I go, however,” I admit and sip my beer.

“We were slow earlier.Hopefully, it will pick up tonight.”She eats, and we bullshit for a little bit. Then I place my order and have another beer at the bar while I wait for the food.

Diesel is working tonight, and he initiates small talk, still wondering why I chose to move out on my own, thinking he has a say, being my big brother-in-law.

“I don’t know why you are in such a rush.Home is free.Free is good. You are still so young. What do you need your own place for anyway?”Nicki starts to laugh at his questions.

“Well, maybe because I’m almost twenty-five, and it’s time.Maybe because I need space, or maybe I don’t want my father walking in on me when I have a dildo shoved up my hoo-ha!”I threw my hands in the air, giving up on the conversation.

That’s right, it happened, and I was mortified.Diesel's eyes get big, his face turns bright red.“TMI, Keni.I should not be hearing these things about my little sister.I’m sorry I asked.”He picks up a napkin and waves it in surrender.

The kitchen bell rings.“Saved by the bell!”he says, walking from behind the bar and grabbing the bag with my salads and appetizers.

“Dinner for two?”Nicki asks, smiling.

“Nah, I figure I’ll have some for lunch tomorrow.”I lean in for a kiss goodbye. No way am I telling her I invited Xander over.Luckily, when I step outside, the rain has subsided enough, and I don’t have to run.
