Until now.

Now that I so blatantly took what they all considered his, I was untrustworthy in their eyes.

I didn’t know how much I should be worried about that concern, but it sure as shit wasn’t helping much. There was no other way to put it.

I was in a tight spot.

Picking up the tray, I walked out of the kitchen and up the stairs to the second level, careful not to spill anything. That wasn’t my only issue; hence the breakfast. I was never one to apologize. I didn’t know how.

Cosimo had beaten it out of me very early on. Sorry wasn’t a part of my vocabulary.

But yesterday I fucked up. I had gone and taken my frustration and fear and anger out on Leda. I used her, leaving her feeling unsatisfied.

It was selfish of me. I prided myself on giving pleasure as much as I take it. And I didn’t do that yesterday.

It didn’t sit well with me, so breakfast alone it was.

However pitiful it looked.

I reached Leda’s door and frowned as I noticed that the door wasn’t shut all the way. Was she in there? Did she try to leave? Surely not. I would have been notified immediately, and alarms would have gone off everywhere.

Pushing open the door, I breathed a small sigh of relief when I saw her bundled up in the massive bed, realizing it was fucking early to be waking someone for breakfast. I found somewhere to put the tray down, and walked over to the bed, looking down at the woman who both infuriated and confused me.

What the hell was I going to do with her? Leda had put me on an emotional roller-coaster ride from the moment she had crashed into my life, and now I couldn’t imagine her not being a part of it.

I had to win against Adrian. Because otherwise, I’d lose her.

Ultimately, I decided not to wake her, instead I moved the tray out to the balcony instead. The weather had cleared overnight, and the sun was just starting to come up over the town below. It gave me a bird’s-eye view of what I had around me.

The house was positioned in a good strategic vantage point, but I didn’t have enough guards to protect all angles. The only thing I could still do is to spot people coming and going from the town. My weapons supply was low. Pretty soon, we’d have to resort to counting bullets.

I placed my hands on the railing and drew in a deep breath. The broken windows had been boarded up, but the divots in the ones that remained were a constant reminder of how close we had gotten to being finished.

The ball bearings embedded in the door behind me was a constant reminder that I would have been unable to protect Leda. If even a single one of those had shattered…

I couldn’t think about that, but I had to be prepared for the next time. I had to make sure that I never put her in a position like that again.

“Lucas?”

Turning, I found Leda in the doorway. Her hair was mussed from sleep, and her eyes gazing up in surprise at me.

I felt something hit me like a sledgehammer.

I was helpless when it came to her.

Chapter 15

Lucas

“I brought you breakfast.” I kept my expression even and measured.

She glanced over at the tray. “Youmade breakfast?”

“Don’t act so surprised.” I walked over to the tray so that I would resist the urge to take her into my arms and push her back into the bed.

My cock tightened at the thought of her body wrapped around mine, her breath warm and soft by my ear as I drilled into her. I pressed my lips into a tight line. This was a mistake.

“Well, it looks great,” she said and stood beside me. I breathed in her light citrus scent, and a sense of calm washed over me.
