“I don’t know about Nico,” I answered truthfully. “But Leda is going to Carmine.”
“What?” Rory was aghast. “She can’t! He’ll kill her.”
“I know. Which is why I need your help.” I said as I untied her hands. As soon as her hands were free, she started on her children, untying their bonds and ripping off their blindfolds.
I walked over to Adrian’s body. His face was a red ruin from the gunshot, but it was what he carried that interested me. I fished out the phone from his pocket. There were several texts from Carmine, each one more pissed off than the last.
And all of them asked about the location of Rory and her children.
Leda was right. The man only cared about his legacy.
“Rory,” I said. “I need you to do me a quick favor.”
“Anything.”
“I need you to put the blindfolds back on.”
Rory’s face blanched. “Why?”
“I’m going after Carmine. And I need to buy Leda a few extra minutes.”
