Which was insane.

Why would I be jealous of having to get a dog sitter to have sex with my almost-wife before the baby came? Not to mention the fact that relations as we knew it would end until the kid was 18. That was not logical, and I was nothing if not a logical man.

At least I used to be.

“Do you think Vanessa is like Tabitha?” I asked idly, stopping my brother in his tracks. And my heart. There was no way in Hades I wanted to show that hand of cards yet.

If ever.

“What do you mean?” he asked slowly, locking his jaw. “If this is some kind of pervy twin thing, I will ban you from joint family gatherings until you’re too old to even use your dick, you lech.”

I had to laugh, ill-advised as it was. “No, not pervy. Not exactly. I don’t even know what I’m asking. Just Pocket Plus seems nothing like Tab and I was wondering if maybe she has some hidden side or something. If maybe you knew.”

“Hidden porntastic side?”

“I mean, that’s never wrong—” When Brady growled, I held up a hand. “Never mind. I haven’t slept in days and I’m practically babbling. Have fun tonight. Hopefully, I won’t get called in.”

“Why would you get called in?”

“A warm Friday night in September. You know, the kind that makes people think of summer before fall’s cold snap settles in. People get crazy.”

“Yeah, maybe the ducks will come marauding through. Otherwise, I think you’re probably safe.” He started walking back to his office, then hooked his thumbs in his belt loops and turned back. “Vanessa bought the property next to yours.”

“Thanks for giving me an early heads up, jerk.”

“You know?”

“Yes, I know.” It was my turn to roll my eyes. She was hard to miss or ignore.

“Is that going to be a problem?”

Orgasm bets weren’t a problem, right?

I cleared my throat. “For now, it isn’t. We’ll see what happens in the future.”

“Just remember she’s going to be your sister-in-law very soon.”

“So I can’t have a one-night-stand with her and leave no forwarding address—which coincidentally, is next door to hers?” I saluted him. “Got it. Now get out of here.”

“Mav,” he began.

“Seriously, have a great night. And leave extra treats for Francie, too, in the dogs’ overnight bag. I forgot to buy her some.”

“Will do. Thanks.” This time, he didn’t turn back on his way into his office, and he shut the door behind him.

“You’re into that pain in the ass, aren’t you?” Christian let out a windy sigh. “I foresee a world of trouble for you, McNeill, and not because you have creepy twin fantasies. She’s a real ballbuster.”

“I can handle her,” I said under my breath as Christian slanted me a knowing look.

Everyone knew I was screwed, including myself. At least this weekend I’d be occupied with our crazy brood of pups. No Pocket Plus in sight.

At least that was the plan.

Later that evening, I finally settled all three of the heathens into their respective beds in Brady’s soon-to-be vacant apartment. He and Tabitha’s new home was almost ready for occupancy on the other side of the lake. They’d been searching for a house for their growing family for months, and the hot real estate market in town hadn’t given them many options until finally their perfect place had appeared out of nowhere.

I’d been prepared to let them have my house that I’d been scouting forever, but Tab had gone through it with her witchy friend Luna and declared “the vibe didn’t match theirs” and passed on it. Whatever. The vibe suited me just fine. Especially if I didn’t look out the window at the hot mess parked next door.

I wasn’t sure how she’d gone from an ugly conversion van to believing a rusty short school bus was an upgrade. But the heap was probably half the reason I couldn’t sleep. I was just waiting for the complaints from the neighbors to start rolling in.
