“Okay, now you’re talking.”

“Also, a sleeping bag that has never been used by our siblings.”

“Man, getting better and better. Can we get a disco ball for over it?”

“It’ll clash with my lava lamp.” I took a big bite of my omelet and followed it up with some of my biscuit. Butter dripped down my chin. Before I could wipe it up, Mav was turning my face toward his. He tipped up my chin as his thumb smoothed over my skin and his far too focused gaze met mine.

And there was nothing playful there. No hint of mischief as he did his best to make people talk. Just pure intention.

Or veryimpure.

“Do you have plans today?”

“No.” The answer rolled off my tongue faster than my mind could keep up. My brain wasn’t having any part of saying no to this man.

I’d hoped to work more on the romantic suspense stepback today. I wasn’t happy with my preliminary sketch of the White Chapel alleyway that was part of a pivotal scene, complete with cobblestones on the street and fog whispering around the 1800s-style buildings. Setting was as important as the characters in this story, and I hadn’t nailed it yet. The bones were there. But the feel was off.

And feel was everything.

“Good. Me either. Want to do nothing with me?”

“Sure. Do you always eat so fast?” I looked pointedly down at his empty plate so I couldn’t wonder if this counted as a date.

It was just a do-nothing day. I’d had those before. Never with a man who could undress me with his eyes one moment and make me laugh like a fool two minutes later, but that was just details.

“I like food.” He shrugged and grabbed for the rest of my biscuit. “Maybe we could get a bag of these to go.”

“To-go biscuits aren’t a thing.”

“They can be. We get to decide what’s a thing and what’s not. We get to make our own rules, no one else.”

“You just want to drive my bus.”

“I kind of like whenyoudrivemybus. Err, truck.” His grin was quick and lascivious before he swiped at his mouth with his napkin.

I leaned up to lick off the butter streak at the side of his mouth. “Missed a spot,” I said, easing back.

But he clamped his hand on my upper arm and held me in place as his mouth made quick work of devouring mine, ending with a sharp bite.

My lower lip vibrated. Not the only part of me that did.

“I missed too many spots,” Mav murmured. “But I’m good at correcting my mistakes.”

“I just bet. Didn’t hear me complaining, did you?” I dropped a kiss on his beardy chin and pushed a forkful of hash browns at him since he’d literally cleaned his plate in record time.

He took the bite and chewed and swallowed, cocking his head thoughtfully. “That’s true. I’d imagine you don’t stay silent if you’re not pleased.”

I ate a bite of home fries. They were pretty good. “Finally, the dude buys a clue.”

“I’ve bought a number of clues since last night.”

“Oh, yeah? Almost afraid to hear which ones.”

His phone went off with a text and he pried out his phone. “Honey wants to know if I can now take back my dog and if Brady can take back his, since babymoon sexfest and any subsequent bloodshed have presumably ended.”

“Tell her she can talk to Brady herself until he stops acting like an ass.”

His thumbs stopped moving over his phone screen. “You heard him?”
