We sang at the top of our lungs as we took the straightaway to the next town over. We turned onto the McNeills’ street and had to wait our turn to get down to the house.

The front of the ranch-style home was done up in her wedding best. The usual flowers blooming around the white picket fence had been replaced with barrels full of mums, cabbage roses, and the floofy frond wheat-looking things that my sister had been obsessed with for the last three months.

Whatever they were, I could see the appeal now that I wasn’t finding them stuck to my feet. Pancake also loved them and stole them from all the mini arrangements Tab had been practicing on. The shredded remnants had been all over her apartment no matter how much vacuuming we did.

I wasn’t sure about using Brooks’ Greenery for the wedding, but my sister had been adamant about using local businesses for her wedding. That was my sister, Miss Community. But she’d been right. The older man definitely knew how to make things pretty.

Probably didn’t hurt that he was Chief Brooks’ dad.

I slid out of Mickey’s compact car and grabbed my dress. The cul-de-sac was full of white trucks from various Cove businesses. The Mason Jar was catering the food, and the familiar black and purple van from Brewed Awakening was here with the cake.

Tabitha wanted her team to just enjoy her wedding, so she’d nixed the idea of them making her cake. They were heartbroken at first, until they realized they got two whole days off for prep, wedding, and recovery. That was definitely a win for all of us.

I intended to sleep for two days myself. Especially since I probably wasn’t going to get any from GQ until we had some time to kiss and make up.

An older man in a sandy-colored pair of overalls and a plaid shirt was laughing with Mr. Brooks while a terrifying, battle sergeant-like woman with curls held back from her face with bobby pins was directing people where to go.

Oh, crap. That was Mav’s mother.

I’d only talked to her briefly at the shower, and she’d been a little intimidating, but now?

Yeah, I was going to give her a wide berth.

I slipped around the truck in the driveway, using the cover of chaos to my advantage.

Hey, look at that,Iwasn’t the chaos for once.

Looking over my shoulder to see if Mickey had followed me, I noticed she’d gotten waylaid by Mrs. McNeill. Oops. Call me a deserter, because I was definitely out of there.

I followed laughter into the main house.

My sister was wearing a cape and sitting on an honest-to-God salon chair in the middle of some sort of home office.

“How did you get that in here?”

A super pretty woman with blond-streaked dark hair turned toward me. “Like it? My husband gifted it to me so I could take care of some of the elderly clients who have a hard time getting into my shop.”

“Are you calling me elderly?” Tab asked, laughing. “Oh,” she slid her hand under the cape and patted her belly, “Presley is very active today. She’s probably just as excited as I am.”

“As long as she stays put,” I said as I dropped into the office chair behind the impressive desk. I could’ve put my head right down on the desk and blinked out. Instead, I let my head drop back on the plush leather.

“You okay?”

I opened my eyes. “Yeah, just tired. You keep me hopping, sis. And your back pain is not fun for sleeping.”

A tiny bit of a fib, but not much. I had gotten a twinge or two.

“Yeah, I stopped in with my gyno for a special visit to make sure things were all kosher. Doctor said I could go any day, but probably not today.”

“Probably?” I sat up and laced my fingers on top of the very proper blotter on the desk.

“Presley Ann can come any day. But I’m getting married before she arrives, dammit.”

“I thought you didn’t care.”

“Blame Brady. He’s got me all hyped about it too.”

“Well, he did get you into this.” I gave the hairdresser a quick smile. “Failed vasectomy.”
