All five meat pies were gone in a snap, and Daisy Rae was feeling much better by the time she started cleaning up.

"Ahem."

Mr. Calder beamed at her from the doorway. "What's the occasion?"

The twinkle in his eye made her heart drop to her stomach, and Daisy Rae could only swallow hard as she watched him enter the pantry. "Um..." Her boss obviously hadn't heard from the billionaire yet, but it didn't feel right to let the older man continue thinking she had a reason to celebrate.

Daisy Rae cleared her throat. "The thing is—-"

"Don't say another word," the older man swiftly interrupted her with a warning shake of his head. "We need to keep things quiet until everything's made legal."

"But—-"

"Sssh."The lawyer made a zipping motion over his lips. "Drop by my office after lunch," he said gruffly. "We can talk about everything then."

He winked at her before leaving, and she barely managed to smile in return even as she cringed inwardly at the thought of having to tell her boss the truth. Mr. Calder could've recommended so many other women for the "position" of Garion Ross's wife, but he had chosen her instead. Would he be furious and disappointed if he found out she had failed? Would he feel like she had let him down?

She would've fretted about it all day given the chance, but as fate would have it, today turned out to be one of her busiest at work, with Daisy Rae having to run emergency errands for the rest of the morning and babysit a toddler whose idea of fun was to spill juice all over her apron. It was probably just a coincidence, but...was there something about her that made kids want to throw stuff on her person?

Andrea was aghast when she saw what her little son had gotten up to while she was in a meeting with her client, but Daisy Rae only shook her head with a smile when the lawyer apologized profusely for her little boy's antics.

"It's all good, Ms. Fowler." Andrea was a hardworking single mother, and at the end of the day, Daisy Rae was just happy to be able to help when she could.

"You're the sweetest, Daisy Rae. I don't know how any of us can ever get by without you."

"I'm hoping you'll never have to know," Daisy Rae said with a grin, "since that could mean I've gotten myself fired."

"It could also mean you've left us to marry your Mr. Right and have kids," Andrea argued with a smile. "Younever know either."

Her heart squeezed at the thought, and Daisy Rae had to force herself to keep smiling as she said goodbye to Andrea and her son.

I know all of this is still part of your plan, Big Guy. Not complaining, but I'm just struggling to make sense of it.

Getting married and having a family had never been her life goals, but now that she was absolutely certain she had lost the chance to become Mrs. Garion Ross, it was painfully ironic that Daisy Rae had only come to realize the truth.

She did want to marry Garion Ross, and she did want a chance to become Theo's second mother. No other man had looked at her the way the billionaire had, and when she remembered having his mouth on her pussy, and his cock in her mouth—-

What if she decided to throw away her pride and ask Mr. Calder to—-

Mr. Calder!

Daisy Rae bit back a groan as she dashed out of the law firm's playroom. She had forgotten all about her meeting with Mr. Calder, and she could only hope he wouldn't mind having her show up at his office in her juice-stained apron.

She knocked on his door and hurried inside as soon as the older man called her in. A half-baked apology was all ready to roll down her tongue, but she forgot all about it upon seeing the man standing next to her boss.

"Mr. Ross?"

Olsen laughed. "There's no need to keep up with the pretense, my dear. Or are you too shy to call Garion by his name when I'm around?"

"Probably the latter." The billionaire was the one who answered for her, and the smoothness of his tone threw her for a loop.

Olsen motioned for Daisy Rae to come forward. "We've the final copies of the contract ready for your signature."

Daisy Rae's confusion grew as the older man handed her a folder. What about Theo? Why were they still pushing through when his son hated her? Or maybe she was reading this wrong, and the billionaire was simply waiting forherto tell Mr. Calder the truth?

Olsen beamed at Daisy Rae. "Would you like to sign them now?"

Daisy Rae squared her shoulders. "I'm sorry, Ms. Calder, but—-"
