“I’ll go talk to her,” I finally say, and Jen nods.

But it looks like Abby’s beaten me to it, opening the deck door slowly as she reappears, the edges of her mouth creased in apology.

“Sorry for slamming the door, Dad,” she murmurs, moving past me to get closer to Jen.

“And I’m sorry for acting like such an idiot, Jen… This whole New York thing just has me on edge. Can we start over?” she asks her best friend.

And Jen being Jen, is only too happy to agree.

“AndI’msorry if I’m gatecrashing your girl’s weekend,” I chime in, seeing as we’re all speaking like sane adults again.

“It’s not you, Dad, it’s me,” Abby’s quick to remind me.

“I just wished they’d call. Tell me yes or no. It’s the waiting I can’t stand,” she groans, hugging her elbows before sitting on the edge of the pool.

“I know the feeling,” I growl quietly, scanning Jen’s curves and sweet face again.

I know the feeling, alright.

“Well,” I finally manage to announce. “If you change your mind about dinner, it would be great to spend some more time with you, both of you,” I make a point of saying for Jen’s benefit. “Whether you get your call or not,” I tell Abby honestly.

“Could we just get take out or something?” Abby asks, looking like she’s forgotten all about wanting her stale old dad hidden away in his own house for the whole weekend.

“Sure, you girls can order anything you want,” I remark.

“I mean you too, Dad,” Abby says. “Why don’t we all just forget about the stupid job and try to enjoy ourselves?” she finally concludes aloud.

“Us girls can do our girly things once the old retired man goes to bed,” she jokes, regaining some of her usual sass.

“Sure,” I agree, but glancing over to Jen, I’m not so sure she does so much.

And once Abby suggests a game of pool volleyball, she regains her good mood and doesn’t waste time in showing some more of her trademark sassiness.

“Two against one, Dad,” she informs me as I set up the net. Instantly gravitating towards Jen’s side of the pool.

“And the loser pays for dinner,” Abby adds, poking her tongue out.

“Sounds fair,” I chuckle, but it’s okay.

I know at least that way, I can watch Jen in motion without having to steal little glances at her instead.

My prediction turns out to be right. And Jen’s about as good at pool volleyball as I am.

Or is it that we just can’t seem to take our eyes off of each other, not the ball? Hmmm.

It’s almost sundown by the time Abby’s had enough. But after watching Jen jumping up and down for so long, I’m going to need some time before I can get out of the pool.

My dick’s so hard it’s poking out the top of my shorts. Impossible to hide if I get out of the water.

“I’ll put the pool lights on,” Abby chirps, leaving the pool first.

Yeah. Great idea, thanks, Abs…

So much for me hiding my shame under semi-dark water.

I think Jen catches on or prefers the sunset version of the water we’ve got.

“Can we leave them off, Abby? It’s kinda cool the way it is,” she calls over to her bestie.
