“I can’t believe we are considering this.”

“You better start believing it. I wish I could say we have some time to think about it, but we really don’t. If we decide to do this, I think we capitalize on that photo from Ardor—say that it moved us out of hiding.”

“Fuck. Okay.” Liam plopped back into his chair. “How would this all work? Obviously we’d be dating, touching, kissing, even. And in public. Are you okay with that?”

My blood hummed. “I’m prepared to do anything I can to make you successful and keep both Leden and Grove Communications happily in business.”

“That’s flattering.”

“I’m just telling you how it is. According to Cici, we’re good to proceed, as long as our breakup is kept clean after the shareholders’ meeting.”

His eyes found mine, sending a sharp pull through my belly.

“So? What do you think?”

Liam held up a finger. Then took another large bite of his Caesar, crunching thoughtfully as I waited, practically holding my breath. Time trickled by, and my patience was wearing thin. “I could come back later?”

Liam leaned forward, his handsome face soft, tentative. “Let’s do this. I’m all yours for the next three weeks.”

Warm fingers pressed against my chin. Slowly, I allowed him to tilt my face upwards once more. My toes curled in the simple black flats I’d tossed on.

“As long as you are sure you are really alright with this. This is far outside the range of normal professional requirements.” Liam’s voice was so low I could practically feel it vibrate across our combined skin contact.

“It was my idea. I know what I’m doing.”

His eyes roamed my face. “When do we start?”

“Now,” I whispered, gripping his knees in my hands. It was as natural as breathing to lean up, to turn my face to his. Our breaths gently puffing out, the warm air brushing over my face.

We were close enough my eyes had to be crossing as I stared at him, my stomach tense and twisting as everything in my body screamed at me to close the distance, to press myself against him, fulfilling every dream and desire that had been keeping me away these past few nights. I could practically taste him against my tongue.

Suddenly things between the two of us didn’t feel fake. They felt startlingly real.
