“I’m really okay, Liam. I talked toThe Peer, and they are going to hold off on posting the picture.”

“What did you promise them? That guy is sketchy as shit.”

“You’re telling me. But it sounded like he was drowning in other bad decisions. Mine wasn’t as high of a resolution as others.”

“Lucky you.”

“Yeah, lucky me,” she said, sarcasm heavy on her tongue.

“Are you sure you don’t want to come over?”

“I’m good for tonight. Really. I’ll talk to you later, okay?”

“Okay. Bye, Sam,” I said, my finger lingering over the End button. I wanted to be absolutely sure that she was hanging up and was sure she didn’t need a place to crash. The empty dial tone told me she had. I tossed my phone across the seat, staring out into the empty evening with a twist in my gut. Something told me that was not the end of this situation.
