I clenched, his dirty talk sending me skating around the edges of my orgasm. “Yes, yes, yes!”

And then there was nothing, my mind a roaring blank as my body fell over the edge and straight into bliss. I could feel my hips and body grinding, clenching, driving him closer. And then the sparking, brilliant heat of him joining me with a shout.

I tumbled down, my body wrapping around him as I tried to manage a breath, then two. Finally, his chest slowed, the heartbeat below my cheek mellowing. Liam’s fingertips were tracing shapes against my spine and neck. A contented sigh stole from my lips.

“Liam, that was…” I swallowed. I didn't even know what it was. How do you go about telling the man who was still inside you that he’d blown away any chance of being content with, or even marginally interested in, another man?

His hands dragged up my body to cup my face, tilting it up to his. The smile on his face was soft. “Are you okay?”

I chuckled softly, my lips brushing against the skin of his chest. “No, definitely not.”

“I know exactly what you mean.” There was a silence then, his hands warm and soothing against my back.

“I want to be with you, Ashlyn. Please, give us a chance.”

I swallowed. A chance, he said.

It was so easy for him. He didn’t know what it would be like to lose another person. How it would feel to lose him. Not when I knew exactly how much safer it would be to watch from a distance, to stay safely away from him and these feelings that followed me everywhere he went. My throat was tight, rigid, my breath stale in my lungs as I dug my fingertips into his sides. I would have to figure out how to tell Cici that my fake relationship with my client had gotten very, very real.

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have rushed you. But whatever this is, it feels like more than a quick public relations maneuver. I’ve been happier fake dating you than really dating anybody in years.” He pressed a kiss to my hair. “We can figure out the company details. Just say yes to a chance. That’s all I need.”

A chance.

“I can give us a chance,” I finally whispered. Please, please don’t break my heart, I thought to myself. I was risking everything.

Liam’s lips captured mine in a mind-stealing kiss. And I let myself get swept along, my fingers diving into the thickness of his hair as he rolled me onto my back. Moments later, I’d let myself forget, my heart already consumed with the feeling of him against me and the way that his lips made me feel.

A chance didn’t seem like too much right now.

I prayed it wouldn’t be.
