She broke the kiss with a gasp, her hips stuttering against me as we stood there, wound around each other, the dying daylight at our backs. “I want you, Brady,” she whispered, voice shaking.

“You have no idea how much I want you. How much I want to take you home and make love to you. To watch your face as I fill you up.”

“What’s stopping you?”

I grimaced. I wasn’t really sure. “I want it to be perfect for you, no hesitation, no second thoughts.”

“Did I say I had any?”

“No, but I can feel it. Every so often.” I tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “Let me woo you, Cecelia. Please.”

She pouted, but her eyes were misty and wide as they met mine. “Will it eventually lead to you fucking me again?”

I coughed at her words. But nodded. “Absolutely.”

“Good, then please, proceed with the wooing.”

I dropped my mouth to hers again, savoring her complete surrender as I drove the tension between us ever higher.

“For God’s sake, just tell the man you want to go with him.”

I looked up from my desk. Luna was standing in my doorway, a cross look on her face. Only someone who had known her for as long as I had could’ve discerned the difference between her usual resting expression and the one she wore now. But I could. “Excuse me?”

“You’ve been sulking half the morning and pouting the other half.” She leveled me with a heavy look. “Just go, Cici. We all know you want to.”

“But it’s his family. And they seem really tight. I don’t want to be the awkward new girl stepping all over their get-together.” I frowned at her, cocking my head. “Also, how the heck do you know about this?”

She waved me off. “He invited you.”

“I don’t want to overstep.”

“My God, girl! Just get over yourself and text him. Or I will.” Luna shook her finger at me for good measure.

“You’re rather pushy today.”

“You’re rather unobservant.”

I laughed this time. “How so?”

“You are totally infatuated with this man. He’s tall, he’s handsome, and he seems to adore you. I bet he’s loaded. Let the guy take you home to meet his family. Put us all out of our misery.”

My face felt like it was on fire. “Point taken, Luna. Sorry to have infringed upon you so thoroughly.”

Lunatsked at me, her gait a bit jolted as she stomped back out of my office. As soon as she was gone, I grabbed my phone from my desk, twisting it between my fingers.

Cici: Hey, how’s your day?

Brady: Better now. How’s yours?

Cici: Luna just yelled at me for leaving you hanging.

Brady: Luna’s my new favorite Grove employee.

Cici: Not Peter?
