“What?” she whispered back.

“I’m supposed to be the smarter older brother.”

“Bow to my excellence,” she teased, but then she broke off on a yawn. “It’s—”

“Bedtime,” Jer said, hauling her back against his chest.

Her eyes on his. Her hand on his jaw.

“Yeah,” she said softly. “Bedtime.”

Teresa

She’d arranged to meet Gabe in a couple of days to finish talking out what they’d started the night before.

But today—tonight—

It was mani-pedi night.

Needless to say, she was not thrilled.

She wanted to check on Mel.

She wanted toseeMel.

But Jeremy had texted her that morning and she’d replied and…she’d asked for space. That, along with Asher’s reassurance that she was doing okay, meant that Teresa had backed off.

For today.

Tomorrow would be another story.

And she’d better watch out, otherwise she was going to end up pulling an overprotective alpha-hole.

That thought, at least, had her smiling, relaxing enough that she wasn’t scowling as she walked up the porch steps and unlocked the front door.

She was…disquieted, though, and upset, not just because of Mel.

But…Gabe had said he was jealous.

Of her.

That was…

Confusing and disquieting and made her wonder if she was missing something else. If she hadn’t seenthatclearly, hadn’t understood where his anger was coming from…what else had she missed?

Not that it excused his behavior.

He’d been way out of line.

But he’d apologized and she thought it was genuine, and as Jeremy had pointed out just before they’d gone to sleep last night, time would tell if he’d truly learned.

She had faith her brother had.

And she hoped she had, too.

Now, though, she had to survive mani-pedis, something she was feeling way too introspective for.
