Her head popped up and even though there were tears on her cheeks, dripping down beyond the corners of her mouth, her smile was still the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen.

“I think it’s perfect,” she whispered.

“Me stealing it?”

A hand on his cheek, lightly dragging through his beard. “I think it’s perfect,” she said again. “You’ll be great at it.” She fixed him with a look. “But I swear to God, Jeremy, if you are even the least bit unhappy, I’m going to make you quit and find something else. I don’t care if Rafe is your best friend or not.”

He covered her hand, pressed it into his skin, soaked in the warmth. “There are unhappy parts to every job,” he pointed out.

“Not for you,” she whispered. “You deserve to be happy every moment of every day.”

God, he loved her.

“No one has ever loved me like you have.”

She sucked in a breath, released it slowly. “I’m just returning the gift that was given me.”

And in that moment, he knew, knewthat with Teresa in his life there wouldn’t ever be a time when he was unhappy.

Things might get hard, they would no doubt fight at regular intervals, life would throw them plenty of curveballs, some they’d hit, others would count as strikes.

But through it all, with this woman at his side, he could never be unhappy.

He wouldn’t ever dare to.

Because she wouldn’t let him.

And that was just fine by him.

Because he knew he had a stubborn streak, too.

And he’d use it to make sure she smiled like that every single day for the rest of their lives.

Thatwas love.

Thatwas learning.

Thatwas perfect.

Epilogue

Jeremy, three months later

That was it.

The final item checked off the to-do list.

Rafe grinned and clapped him on the back. “Nice work, bud,” he said, holding up the keys. “One of the smoothest yet.”

“Liar,” he laughed, pulling back, and punching Rafe on the shoulder. “But I’ll get better at it.”

This was his first solo management project.

The first time he’d run one without Teresa partnering with him, double-checking his steps, acting as his sounding board, (and yes, occasionally helping to guide him back in the right direction).

It hadn’t been completely smooth, not by a longshot.

But he’d managed to get his shit together.
