“I know he does.” A beat. “It’s a pain in the ass for his right hand and his best friend to be at odds.”

A curl of mischief (okay, some might sayevil)trailed through her belly as she put the car in park and turned to him.

“What do you think he would think of that right hand and best friend coming together?”

“For?”

She rubbed her hands together, a burst of fake evil laughter filling the car. “For dastardly deeds, of course.”

Amusement in his eyes.

A smile on his face.

Something settled in her.

Then settled further when he brushed his fingers along the back of her hand and grinned. “I’m in.”

Nineteen

Jeremy

Our dastardly deeds begin today. Jenkins job site. 5 pm.

It was five after five, and he was late because he’d been waylaid by HR on the way out the door.

They weren’t going to take any action against Bianca.

It was…frustrating.

But not unexpected.

She hadn’t reallydoneanything (their words, not his), and he’d found out that she was the owner’s niece.

Nepotism.

How…cliché.

Ultimately, he needed to get the fuck out.

So, once he’d finished with whatever evil act Teresa had in mind for them tonight, he was going full steam ahead with the resumé submissions.

How he would end up with a position that wasn’t going to lend him the same unhappiness, he didn’t know.

But he had to at least try.

Try to do something better. Try to think about what he wanted, as foreign as that concept was.

A knock on his window had him snapping out of his mind, turning to see that Teresa was standing outside his car.

And fuck.

Her smile.

It washersmile, and it was pointed at him, and it wasn’t brittle and filled with sharp edges because he’d pushed her so far that she was keeping her distance.

It wasTeresa.

His heart skipped a beat and then expanded in his chest, pushing against his ribs.
