Didn’t make him feel weak or selfish.

And it was all because of Teresa and a couple of tubes of plastic wrap.

Fuck, life was weird sometimes.

“It’s as good as done, my dear,” Mrs. Jacobs said, signing her name with a flourish on the contract. “We’ll get these to my attorneys and yours, and then I get to sign a check.”

“I thought rich people didn’t like to give their money away.”

“We don’t mind loaning it.” A grin. “So long as it comes with a hefty return.”

Teresa stacked her copies of the contract and smiled. “I’ll do my best.”

Mrs. J patted her hand. “I know you will.”

They spent the next couple of minutes talking about logistics and setting up a few standing meetings both with Mrs. J and her business manager for regular check-ins and mentoring.

Each was important considering the stakes and the amount of money Teresa was soon going to have in her possession.

She needed to be smart and careful.

She needed to not fuck up this opportunity.

So, she was going to be working her ass off, taking advantage of every meeting offered, and she was going todo this.

“So that’s it,” she said softly, drying the pot that Jeremy had been scrubbing. “My life is about to get a hell of a lot busier.” She dried the outside, dragging the towel up the gleaming sides, over the handles. “Honestly, I didn’t expect it all to happen this fast. I thought that it would take months and I wouldn’t still be working on all these projects with Rafe. IthoughtI’d be training my replacement and eventually flitting off into the world of entrepreneurship.”

“What do they do in theworld of entrepreneurship?”

“Eat, drink, ritual sacrifices.” A beat before she added dryly. “You know, the usual.”

He laughed. “What are you sacrificing?”

“Free time, sanity, and the chance to take it all at Game Night.”

“Ah,” he said, lips turned up into a smile, “is that why you lost tonight? Your poor little brainy brain is all tired from yourmeeting?”

She swatted him with the towel. “I’ll have you know, it’s a brain-brainnota little brainy brain.”

“I stand corrected.”

“And it is tired.” She rolled her shoulders. “I’mtired, but it’s not just because of the meeting.”

“Too much focus on coming up with new dastardly deeds?”

Nowherlips turned up. “Yes.” A beat. “Plus, my fingers hurt from helping Rafe take off all that plastic wrap.”

“Your idea.”
