And Asher didn’t look pleased.

* * *

The sink was empty by the time he made it back inside, Teresa nowhere in sight.

Asher wasn’t either and as he searched the kitchen, poked his head into the garage, he heard Asher’s truck start up, heard it take off down the road.

But he was less concerned about his brother (and his brother’s idiocy about Mel) and more concerned about Teresa.

That kiss.

Her touch.

Her body.

Now gone, any progress eroded by an interruption—one that she was totally reading wrong, one he hadn’t made any better by running off after Mel.

Stupid.

But…he wouldn’t be the man he was if he didn’t care about the people in his life.

He was learning that, too.

There was just a difference between caring and taking over.

More learning.

Though he would take some learning about where Teresa was right about now.

The house had emptied. He was alone…having hoped that the aloneness would actually translate into being alone with Teresa.

But she hadn’t reappeared.

And he was left wondering if he should stay or go.

He owed her an explanation, he knew that much, but if she was avoiding him, then how the fuck was he supposed to give it to her?

Tear her house apart?

Demand that she show herself and talk to him?

Demanding got him nowhere with her, and if he started busting down doors, then he would get even less than nowhere.

Okay, no busting.

Instead, he’dopen.

Inhaling and exhaling, he moved to the garage, pulling it wide, and—

He froze.

It was empty.

Her car was gone.

And seriously, her fucking car wasgone.

A bolt of fury skittered down his spine, sending his pulse racing, anger through his veins.
