The front door isn’t locked, and I boldly open it rather than knock. The doorman isn’t here, neither is the rest of Jaguar’s entourage. Odd. Does he only parade them around when he knows an audience will be watching? The prospect serves to do the opposite of what I hoped to accomplish by coming here—he’s even more interesting than before.

A narco who only plays the part? Or a man who trusts in his reputation so much he fears no one, enough to let strange women into his home unaccompanied…

Julian Domingas is quite the enigma.

Somehow, I know exactly where he’ll be—in a pink bedroom near his suite, on a massive bed with three naked bimbos draped over his body. When I toe the threshold, he doesn’t seem surprised. Even though his eyes remain closed, his lip twitches into that trademark smirk. I stiffen. Did he expect me to come?

No, I think. That’s why he’s so amused. “Lupe.” He inclines an eyebrow without lifting his head from a mound of silken pillows. “To what do I owe this visit? Did you want to see my harem in action, perhaps? You’ve missed the show, I’m afraid.” His laugh would make a weaker woman blush with shame. I just stare, refusing to take my eyes off him, even as his companions begin to stir.

“By the way,” Jaguar adds, opening his eyes, “your pussy may be magic, but nothing beats a nice big ass you can grab onto—” He slaps the ass of the nearest blond for emphasis, and she moans and rolls over. He’s naked as well, unshielded by the covers. Aware of where my gaze darts, he grins. “Did you care to join us for round two?”

“No. Like you, I always pay my debts. You want to know that you have my loyalty?” I raise the crumpled folder in my grasp. “Here. The information on our friend Ronaldo that I wanted to bring you in full.”

He smirks. “As if I don’t already know the full story, chica.”

He has no reason to lie, but I still feel the need to say, “Like that he was beingpaidto skim off the top from you?”

His eyes narrow. “Ah, the magic tongue returns. I hope this isn’t a ‘suspicion’ that you can’t back up, Lupe.”

“It’s all in here.” I throw the folder onto the bed. “The bastard was hiding the money right under your nose while selling you out. Someone put him up to it. At least you can rest easy knowing that he deserved to face your ‘punishment.’ As for me? Well, our bargain is now neatly ended. I thank you for the souvenirs.”

I turn on my heel to leave.

“Wait.”

I look back to find him attempting to stand. He shoves a brunette off of him. “All of you. Get the fuck out. Now.”

Groaning, his bedmates scramble from the room, leaving me alone with him. Fully naked, Jaguar positions himself on the edge of the mattress and snatches my folder. It isn’t long into his perusal of the first few pages that his entire expression changes.

Flashing with mistrust, his eyes cut to mine. “Where the hell did you get this?”

“I told you I needed to be sure,” I say, refusing to so much as flinch. “Had you given me more than a few minutes to make a judgment, I could have had all of this to you well before my meeting with Gatita.” I sound bitter. Good. I am.

“Butwheredid you get it from?” He spins to face me directly, an eyebrow raised. “I hope you haven’t been waving my numbers around for the world to see, Lupe.”

“I got my suspicions confirmed by concrete intel,” I say, evading the accusation. “And if I truly wanted to betray you, I wouldn’t need to show those numbers to the whole world. I would track down whoever has been paying off Ronaldo. I’m sure it’s someone powerful enough to take such a bold risk. Had you waited, you could have asked before feeding him to your pet.”

“Careful, Lupe,” he scolds in a tone laced with warning. “You’ve just revealed yourself to be a threat to me. Perhaps I should feed you to my kitty as well?”

Pain is one hell of a drug—I don’t even react to the threat.

“Or, you could have taken me up on my first offer,” I feel tempted to say. “You could have trusted me, and I would have uncovered this sooner.”

“Trust a woman purely on her juicy pussy and pretty words? Oh no, Lupe, you aren’t that naïve. You’re desperate as hell—” He sits back, stroking his thumb along his chin. “I think you need to give me another reason to keep you on my side.”

“I’m the only one with a good damn reason to be on your side,” I say. “Give me what I want, and you have no reason to ever fear betrayal from me.”

He laughs. “You make it sound so easy, Lupe, but shall I reiterate just what you want? Braulio Rivera dead. That is no small ask.”

“No. I just want—”

“Enough with the fucking lies!” He throws the folder aside, sending the documents scattering. I have enough sense to back away—but just a step. I could never run fast enough if he truly wanted to hurt me.

“You aren’t a fool,” he growls. “You know that what you want won’t come easy. Your son in your arms and a new life freed from the shadow of your ex-lover. Oh yes, Lupe. You want the bastard dead and gone, and I’ll tell you now that it will cost you a lot damn more than sex and boasts. Can you handle that? I suggest you think carefully.”

“There is nothing to think over,” I reply with a shrug. The simple motion strains my back, and it hurts so badly I could scream. I have to suck in air just to say, “As I told you, if you won’t help me, I’ll find someone who will. Now, if you excuse me, I have a plane to catch.”

“And if I were to send you to Braulio in a body bag? I think he might pay handsomely for that. Far more than you can afford, chica.”
