And then silence.

I rip myself away from the wall, rushing towards the living room. My only thought is what’s happened to Anika.She’s alright,I tell myself, feeling my stomach twist with nausea, fear chilling my blood until I feel as if my veins have turned to ice.

I skid to a stop in the doorway, gripping the side of it as my knees go weak.

The living room is a war zone, bodies everywhere that I don’t recognize, and a few that I do from Viktor’s security. The rest of his men are standing with their weapons drawn, along with Luca, Liam, and Levin, all of them with guns in hand as they look down at the remains of the intruders.

But my focus isn’t on any of them. Not even on Sofia, pale-faced and holding her belly as she crouches near Ana, shielding her.

All I can see is Viktor, kneeling next to the sofa, bent over a small, unmoving shape on the bloodied rug.
