As we walk off, I glance out of the corner of my eye at Ax. I’ve gotten good over the years at reading body language in general, especially at doing so subtly. He looks tense, but honestly, I expected worse. I don’t see any fresh cuts on his arms from this angle, at least. And he’s only scowling the usual amount.

“I think I’m done for now,” I say, keeping my head facing forward and my tone neutral. “Wanna have lunch with me?”

I look over long enough to see the corner of his mouth turn up just a touch and I know he’s fine.

“Are you asking me for a lunch date, boss lady? Or something else?” he smirks, wagging his eyebrows, and I hear Brutus chuckling behind me. I turn to glare at him briefly and he stops immediately. I swear to god they’re all children.

“Why don’t you go get a bite to eat?” I tell Brutus and he nods, immediately veering off towards his own area. Since he’s been working for me, he eats a lot better.

“Don’t do that,” I snap at Ax under my breath as soon as Brutus is out of sight. He darts a glance at me, and I know he knows what I’m talking about. Even if it’s my supposedly loyal bodyguard, he can’t be flirting and teasing like that. Appearances are everything here.

I keep my back straight and we walk in silence the rest of the way back to our room. I realized about four days ago I called it “our” room in my head and did a bit of a mental shrug. The logical part of my brain knows I should still be working to get the fuck out of here, getting Ax to help. I may have won one fight and be doing okay now, but I’m not stupid enough to think I can be like Ax and cope here forever. I may give him shit, but he was a good leader. Especially considering what he had to work with.

I can’t live my entire life here, can I? Could I be happy here if it was with him? Despite the longing for freedom, for open doors and grass and trees, I know I would rather spend a life here with him than one outside without.

As we walk into the room, the familiar aroma fill my senses and I can’t help but smile. It’s the smell of blood and hot stone combined with the hint of our lovemaking from last night. Together, it’s the smell of Ax himself. That deep manly scent that is purely him. I know it’s crazy, but all of it just makes me feel safe.

I turn to Ax after he closes the door, keeping my expression straight. I may care about this man, but we both know that he loves my ability to hold my own and speak for myself. I cross my arms and wait and am immediately rewarded with a heated look.

Holding my ground, I watch as he slowly closes the distance between us. His gaze burns into me and it’s all I can do not to squirm at the arousal brewing inside me.

Always one for a taste of danger, I think wryly. Every time I’m pissy at him, I swear it only turns him on. And in turn, he turns me on. Then angry sex.

I mean, it’s not a bad system.

Once he’s only a foot away, I see the corner of his mouth turn up briefly before he’s on me. Ax’s lips crash into mine, hungry and demanding. The fact I’m still annoyed at him seems to only fuel the flame inside me as his hands greedily roam down my sides. When he reaches my butt, he squeezes and I let off a small squeal, pushing him away.

“I said lunch and I’m still kinda pissed at you,” I warn with a finger pointed at him as I step back. His smirk grows, and he takes another step forward, getting right back into my bubble.

“Is that so?” he says. Before I have a chance to respond he spins me, bending me over the table. Pressing his hard manhood against me he leans over to whisper into my ear, “I’m going to fuck you fast and hard now,” he nips my earlobe and I bite my lip to keep in the moan, “and when I’m done, you can be as mad as you want.”

I feel myself get wet at his words and, at that moment, all I want is for him to take me. These past weeks he’s been so gentle with me. Which, to be honest, I needed. Right now, though, I want nothing more than to be taken, owned. Pushing my ass back into him, I lean my head back to kiss him. His tongue enters my mouth in a sloppy, hot kiss that leaves me gasping. I don’t have time to recover before he tugs my pants down and enters me in one quick thrust.

“Fuck!” I cry, more surprised than in pain. Thank fuck I’m already wet for him or that would have hurt. I try to pull myself upwards, but a hand pushes my body flat onto the table. I hold on to the other side as he fucks me fast and hard, just like he promised. I can feel his cock, throbbing and rigid in each of his long thrusts.

His roughness turns me on like crazy, but I’m also aware something is wrong. He needs this right now. Needs me. My body responds to his, feeling the need and pain seeping out of him. I don’t know what’s in his head right now, but my entire being sure as hell wants to make it better.

He doesn’t let up for a second, pounding into me without mercy. When he slaps my ass, I cry out, but it quickly turns to a moan as he snakes his hand around me to work my clit. In seconds I feel my orgasm rising, my entire body tingling and ready. Ax’s breathing gets more ragged as I feel myself tighten and twitch around him.

Pushing my ass back again, I wiggle it in a circle as I drag his orgasm out with my own. He drops his head down to my back for a moment as we both catch our breath.

After a minute, he plants a kiss on my spine and stands, offering his hand to help me. My head spins for a moment and I put a hand on the table to steady it. I give him a level look and he give me a small smile before kissing my forehead and going to grab me a cloth.

Cleaning up quickly, I watch him and try to decipher the crazy mood swings. For the last few days in particular he has been all over the place. He catches me looking at him and I see an array of emotions cross his face I can’t decipher. He settles on a small smile and an elaborate bow.

“Ready for lunch, my Queen?”

“My Queen?” I sputter with a laugh, remembering my comment to Desmond earlier. He doesn’t rise from his bow, effectively answering the floor.

“Queen of the Tomb…and of me,” he says seriously, and I try not to laugh.

“Is that as close as I’ll get to an apology?” I ask with an eyebrow arched and my arms crossed. He looks up from his bow and smirks at me.

“Yes.”

I feel my resting bitch face waiver as his single dimple pops out on his left side. The first time he smiled big enough for me to see it, I actually squealed.

“Is that a yes?” he asks, wagging his eyebrows at me again and this time I can’t help but let out a laugh. He grins and rushes me, grabbing me around the stomach and swinging my legs up.
