Ethan paces the floor, running a hand over his filthy hair and face.

“Fuck, I really fucked up,” Ethan mutters almost to himself. He stops and looks up to us. “We were going to get Sammi’s things all subtle like and her fucking pimp was there!”

He looks at me with pleading eyes.

“He fucking touched her man, fucking hit her. I just saw red.”

I nod, fully understanding. If it had been Ana, I don’t doubt I would have done the exact same. These women creep their way into our hearts and overwhelm logic and reason.

“What did they say they are going to do?” Ana asks.

“They said something about The Watch and turning me over. Ax, they suspect I’m one of the prisoners that escaped. I denied it, but they still sent for The Watch. Apparently, they’ve been looking for us all, and it sounds like at least a few were caught already.”

I curse under my breath but it’s Ana who responds with a nod.

“Yeah, it’s a bit hit or miss depending where you are, but I’d say you’re probably right. They don’t want to get their hands dirty, so they call for The Watch. Some towns make deals for favors and things too, it all depends how close they are with them.” She pauses a moment, looking at me though I know she’s speaking to us both. “If they get here before we do something….”

“Won’t happen,” I interject, turning back to Ethan. “If I have to, I’ll kill all these motherfuckers and get you out.”

Ana sighs and rubs a hand down her face.

“Don’t do that, man,” Ethan replies. “These people don’t deserve it. I fucked up, I’ll admit it and take my penance.”

“What the fuck are you talking about?” I practically hiss at him. “Besides, who the fuck is gonna take care of your woman if not you? I sure as fuck ain’t doing it.”

Ethan’s eyes widen slightly before narrowing and he walks over to the bars, wrapping his hands around and putting his forehead against them. At least in The Tomb, we had the run of the place. I can’t imagine being in a shitty little cell like this.

“Think you can get me out without killing anyone?” he asks me quietly and I consider the question for a moment before nodding hesitantly.

“I think so, but I need more time.”

“Watch will be here within a few days,” Ana says. “We don’t have much time.”

“It’ll be enough.”

Ana’s eyes watch me, assessing. I can feel her uncertainty and finally, her decision.

“We don’t hurt anyone, and we need to be subtle. No crazy bullshit this time, okay?”

A slow grin crosses my face and even Ethan chuckles.

“Who me?”

She raises an eyebrow at me and smirks.

“Just promise me you won’t kill anyone or do anything stupid today? I should try to find Sammi.”

“If you find her—” Ethan begins.

“Then we’ll keep her safe,” I interrupt.

This time it's Ethan’s turn to watch me before finally nodding.

“Then I suppose I’ll see you tomorrow, brother.”

As we leave, the headache behind my eyes grows. Been here an hour and already have this bullshit to deal with. Fuck this stupid town.
