He nods and turns his back like he’s going to walk away before stopping. My brows knit together, noting the tension in his shoulders even in the dim lighting. Killian turns back to me, a look of resolution on his face as he comes closer, his voice dropping.

“You should get out of here now,” he says, looking into my eyes. My frown deepens.

“What?” I reply with a laugh. “What are you—”

“I trust you’re treating my newest girl well, Kill?” Neil's voice rings out behind me. I immediately plaster the smile back on to my face and turn around, but not before I notice the frown on Killian’s as he watches me.

“He sure is, sugar,” I reply playfully, stepping down from the stool to move closer to him. Neil grins and reaches out to squeeze my ass, hard. Behind us, Killian puts down a glass loudly.

“I’m all done here. You locking up?” Killian asks.

Neil doesn’t even look at him to respond. His eyes never leave me.

Pussy struck.

“Yeah, yeah,” he replies absently, leaning in to bite my neck. I giggle, as I know is expected. “So, baby girl, you want a job?”

I nod emphatically, biting my lip for effect.

“Be here tomorrow at six,” he tells me. He nips once more at my neck before all but pushing me off. Pulling out his phone, he starts rapid-firing messages.

Not looking up, he continues. “There are some contracts and shit by the door, bring it. Six o'clock. Don’t be late.”

“Bit early for a place like this, isn’t it?” I ask, trying to keep my voice sweet. Neil grunts and keeps doing something on his phone.

“Costumes, gotta see what it’s all about,” he mutters, before waving me off and walking away.

I stand there a bit befuddled for a moment, my confidence waning slightly. Guys don’t typically walk away from me, so this is a bit of a first, and I realize then Neil is going to be more work than I anticipated. And I certainly didn’t expect a fucking employee contract.

“Come on,” I hear Killian’s voice behind me, closer to the doors, “I’ll let you out.”

I nod gratefully and grab my bag. I see a manila folder sitting on the bar and grab it without looking inside.

“So, you ever been here when we’re open?” he asks as he waits. I shake my head.

“No, but I’ve heard it’s pretty incredible.”

Killian laughs at this and I actually stop for a minute, watching how the expression transforms his face. When he isn’t scowling, he’s even better looking.

“Incredible is one way to put it,” he comments, noting I’m ready as he starts to walk toward the door. He holds it open for me before imparting one last nugget for the evening.

“Hope you’re ready for this place, princess.”

Chapter Two

Meet Me in the Red Room

Echo

I was ready to go by 3PM. Patience has never come naturally for me, but over the years it’s something I’ve been forced to adopt. The ultimate reward to those who wait.

The bracelet of pearls I wear is like a rosary, one of the few items from my past life. One by one, I let my hands run over the smooth surfaces, saying their names over and over like a mantra.

Neil. Peter. Tanner. Sergio. James.

Last night, I went over all the papers left for me and was a bit surprised to see a non-disclosure agreement amongst several others. The more I read, the more curious I became. I hardly slept, I was so excited.

Being on a stage was nothing new for me and I was excited for that, but more for the planning that I could finally begin.
