Knowing what he did in an abstract way was bad enough. Now? Knowing what I do?

I’m fucking grateful self-control is something I’m good at.

Not until you know Echo’s safe.

“Kill, what are you doing here? Club’s closed,” he asks with a frown.

I start a bit, realizing I didn’t think of a good reason I would be here at 7 AM on a day we’re closed. I decide to opt for a dumb approach, but one I expect a pig like Neil will relate to.

“I was supposed to meet one of the girls last night. She didn’t show, so I thought….”

“Which one?”

I hesitate for a second, but there's no reason to hide our shit now.

“Echo.”

Neil smirks and my eyes narrow.

“What?”

“Oh, she was here earlier with us, but she left.” He leans against the wall, crossing his arms. The added emphasis on ‘with us’ isn’t lost on me and my jaw clicks.

“I gotta say, Kill, didn’t take you for the guy who’d get pussy whipped by one of these bitches. Gotta watch it, hoes can’t be trusted.”

My teeth clench. “Great advice,” I say through closed teeth, “Now, where the fuck did she go?”

Neil raises an eyebrow at that, pushing off the wall.

“As much as I’d love to help you get your revenge on the little slut, I have no fucking clue. Now, kindly fuck off.”

I take a step forward and open my mouth to speak. All the humor drops from Neil’s face and he nods to the door.

“I told you, I haven’t seen her. Club’s closed, so get the fuck out of here.”

The tension in my body only tightens as I see the threat in his gaze. For a moment, neither of us moves.

If I rush up there now and she isn’t here, I’m fucked. So is she.

I can’t do anything. Not until I know for sure where she is.

I give him a short nod and turn to walk out.

Chapter Twenty-Five

Hush, Little Baby

Echo

The pounding in my skull is what wakes me. I try to let out a groan but quickly realize my mouth is covered and hands tied. My eyes fly open and I recognize the flooring of Neil’s office. I struggle against whatever is tying my hands behind me, but it’s quickly apparent that it’s twist-ties and that I’ll need to cut them.

My heart is racing, and I have to force it to slow, force my mind to work. Really, everything in me is screaming:Not again!

Closing my eyes, I take a few deep breaths until it’s under control and I open my eyes. They land on the radiator at the floor. Cocking my head, I listen but can’t hear anything.

That’s what you thought before, that annoying voice reminds me.

There are no windows in this room, so I have no way to tell how long I’ve been here or what to expect if I get out of this room. Uncertainty threatens to paralyze me.
