“Why do you cry? What happened to the tough girl?” Sergio mocks, leaning forward to lick the tears from my cheeks.

“Mmm, salty and sweet.” He chuckles and winks. “Alright, boys, who's next?”

I’m not sure if I pass out for a moment, but when my eyes open again, Neil is above me again.

“You sick fuck, she looks like shit now,” he says with disgust before flipping me to my stomach. He slaps my ass hard. It makes my body jump, the splinters digging into my chest the least of my pains.

I feel fingers, too many fingers, being pressed inside me. I whimper, but he only chuckles, pressing harder. The pain is unbearable, and I feel myself tear further. His movements get smoother, lubricated by my blood. It hurts so bad and all I want is for the darkness to take me.

He leans forward so his face is near my ear, his voice so low I’m certain I’m the only one who can hear it.

“Don’t worry, princess, it’ll all be over soon….”

Chapter Twenty-Eight

Didn’t Know I’d Love You So Much

Killian

Standing in the forest behind Eternity, I stare at the building below like I might suddenly be able to see through walls. Like some sudden clarity might come if I only sit still enough.

Crouched down in the bushes, I wonder if Echo was in this exact spot.

Going through the forest elicited no real results, but then again, if something did happen, I don’t know how the fuck I’d find any sign of it. At least there were no bodies, blood, or anything else to indicate anything ominous.

With nothing else to do, I have to assume she made it through the forest okay to plant the bomb, and didn’t come back this way.

I think back to Neil's comments about Echo being there earlier and a stab of jealousy hits me. I know why she did the things she did, but it doesn’t make it easier to swallow. And it’s impossible to know if they really did see her last night.

How far would she go to maintain the ruse if that’s true?

My blood boils knowing the answer and I have to will myself to stay calm. Once I find her, then I can find out the truth. And beat her sweet ass if need be.

First things first.

So, I know she managed to get to the forest, presumably with the bomb.

I can safely assume she made it through the forest okay and got here.

I know she planted the bomb. So she got in okay.

What happened then?

Really, I know there is only one answer, and whether she kept her ruse or not makes little difference. Neil and the Iron Elite don’t worry about innocence, and even if they thought Echo was just another good little stripper, she wouldn’t be safe if she was found there after hours.

“Fuck!” I shout, lashing out at a tree with my fist. The pain helps center me.

We were so eager to end this all that we never looked further into them, and now, I have no idea where Echo could possibly be, or if she’sright fucking thereand there’s nothing I can do about it.

I don’t know what other buildings he owns, where he might take her.

I can’t even let myself consider that she might already be dead.

My mind races with options, including rushing in there with my fucking pistol and pointing it at Neil’s head until he tells me.

Somehow, I don’t think that will help Echo, though it's getting harder to convince myself of that.

The police won’t help. If anything, it’ll make it harder to look at Neil and his guys if he’s on to me.
