The corner of his mouth turns up and he stops in front of a doorway with Ivor’s name on it.

“I’m glad you asked.”

“When do we do this?”I ask Ivor.

“Tonight,” he replies. “We have a selection for you to choose from for the initiation. You’re lucky, it used to be that you’d have to procure them yourself.”

I ignore the comment.

“And when do I get the girl?”

Ivor’s smirk only grows at that, making me clench my fist.

“Don’t concern yourself with her, there are many more pretty silver-haired girls, should you wish.”

My jaw ticks. “I want that one. That was our deal.”

“Careful, Atlas. You might think she matters more than the Iron Elite.”

I don’t say anything to that.

Ivor sighs after a minute and waves Lucas over, muttering something quietly to him. Lucas says something back and Ivor raises an eyebrow.

“I see,” he says, clearing his throat. “It would actually appear she has been requested by one of our existing members, but further to that, she’s to go on auction.”

I feel Ivor’s eyes on me, testing me with this knowledge.

I stand, my hands on the table in front of us.

“You said I could have her.”

Ivor’s lips thin. “I did say this.” He turns to Lucas. “Get the car ready.”

Lucas leaves, and Ivor turns his attention back to me.

“To stop an auction is no small thing,” he begins, sitting back in his chair with a worried expression. “Our members expect a certain quality when it comes to entertainment. Costs and time involved and so forth. I can hardly take away their entertainment without providing an alternative. Surely, you are a man who understands this.”

A sinister smile grows on his face and he looks at me questioningly before continuing.

“So, this is my offer. You want the girl? Then she is her own price. Your initiation using the girl shall be our show.”

I try to let nothing show on my face, but can’t help the flaring of my nostrils, the twitch of my lip. The thought of what he’s asking make my insides clench in disgust.

“I am not a fucking attraction,” I manage, doing my best to keep the rage coursing through me at bay.

“But, Atlas, my dear man, this is the price of the Elite. You want to be one of us, show us you have what it takes.”

“I’ll do my part, be one of you, but I want her, not a corpse,” I manage to grit out, mind racing to think of any way to not go through with this. The corner of Ivor’s lip turns up.

“Though there are some even here with those tastes, no, I don’t suppose you would. But we did say you had to make her bleed, that doesn’t mean death.”

My jaw ticks and his grin grows, a low chuckle from his chest.

“Well, friends, looks like we’re going to have ourselves a show.”
