"That fucking asshole broke my wrist!" he squealed in a high pitch voice, cries following as he rolled around in agony.

Fuck. Were the Spades here? Why would they break his wrist?

I quickly looked towards the carpark, finding no one. I gave Nathan a quick pat on his shoulder. "I'll be back," I said, rushing towards the back of the building.

In the distance I spotted Blair, heading towards the treeline. She wasn't alone, but it wasn't the Spades she was with.

It was fucking Gid.

I could recognize that bastard anywhere.

Nathan's cries increased and I was torn between helping him and running after Blair. They were sitting at a picnic table so I quickly reached for my phone, dialling for an ambulance. I gave them the details and location for Oreo's, telling them the injuries and as much information as I could.

As soon as I was done with the call, I shoved my phone in my pocket, running back to check on Blair. Gid was nowhere to be seen and she was walking back towards us.

I breathed a sigh of relief, heading back to Nathan as I waited for the ambulance.

This was bad. Gid had warned me he was going to be seeing her, but he hadn't harmed her so that was something, at least.

Blair said nothing to me when she finally reached me, the ambulance entering the carpark at the same time. Quinn ran out to investigate, horrified when she spotted Nathan on the ground.

"Stay with me, please, bro!" he begged. I could have kicked him in frustration. I wanted to stay with Blair and Quinn, and keep an eye on them. But, the paramedics looked at me expectantly, so I nodded, following Nathan as he was wheeled to the ambulance.

"I'll message you," I shouted to the girls, getting a thumbs up from Quinn.

Something was about to go down. I could feel it.

Chapter 5

IwavedgoodbyetoNathan as he fell into the backseat of his parents' car. He could barely keep his eyes open, high as a kite as he hugged his wrist.

"Bye, Hendo!" he yelled, waving with the broken limb.

"Get some rest, Nathan," I said, closing the door behind him.

Luckily for him, it had been a clean break. I had been bombarded with questions by the hospital staff and his parents, but I played stupid. I told everyone I didn't see anything and that by the time I had found him, the assailant had taken off. The police had been called but given Nathan didn't know who Gid was, and I wasn't much help, they could only take a description from Nathan's drowsy state and do the best they could to keep an eye out.

I was trying to figure out how I would get home when my phone dinged with a message. Pulling it out, I was surprised to see Benny's name flash up on the screen.

Benny: Bro, G's circle are attacking the girl tonight. Just thought you should know.

I read the message twice, trying to let it sink in.

"Fuck!" I shouted, shoving it back in my pocket.

It made sense now. Gid timed his appearance perfectly, using his charm to get Blair alone and then taking the opportunity to get me out of the picture by attacking Nathan. He had waited until he knew I was away from the girls to send his lackies.

Dread filled me as I started running towards Blair's house. It was a few miles away but I had no damn car, and calling an Uber to drive to the scene was stupid. Thankfully, my fitness and ability to run long distance helped. But it didn't ease the pit of anxiety in my stomach. Chances were they had already attacked, and I tried hard not to think about what could have happened to Blair.

I tried to prepare myself for who I might have had to face. They were all ruthless, cold killers, especially in Gid's circle. Jenks was a fucking bastard, and I knew first hand he would have loved to get in on the action. He was a showman, always wanting a dramatic performance to draw out fear.

I did the best I could to cover the distance as quickly as possible, preparing myself for the worst.

No, don't think that.

Fuck, I had no idea if Blair had been alone, or if Quinn was with her. All because stupid fucking Nathan had to tag along with us. The dopey shit should learn to read the room.

As Blair's house came into view, I paused at the gates, looking down the driveway. I could see a vehicle at the front of the house, but I didn't recognize it.
